boxman
Won't happen Never does You're not goign to trade a 4th liner for a top 6 Besides, Montreal usually keeps their UFA 's and then let's them go int he summer for nothing You guys are missing the obvious. This allows Eller to play with Gio and Pouliot, right after we trade Gomez for a top 6! Gomez will probably go on to score 3 goals in his first game with his new team... Or not. Whatever. S-Bah
Our team just got better this is what every fan wants, and the Habs have gotten deep in talent. That is one of the biggest steps to winning in the playoffs, having depth at all positions and talent as well.
always-a-habs-fan_mtl
At the very least Halpern gives us a good depth centre. He could also be used on right wing with Cammy and Pleks. I think AK46 is going to burn up the league this year...He is playing for a contract after all and right now he doesn't have much to take to market. However if he fails Halpern could take his place. I fully expect to see Eller and Boyd in the lineup coming out of training camp. Darche is signed to a one way contract so would have to clear waivers before he can be sent to Hamilton. LeafsDog
Maybe he might play wing on a line with Eller? I think it would be good for Eller to play with a veteran in his first year. I'd be happy with this bottom 6: Halpern-Eller-Moen Pyatt-Boyd-Lapierre

I'd be happy with this bottom 6: Halpern-Eller-Moen Pyatt-Boyd-Lapierre One of his best qualities is his faceoff ability and adding the right handed center. When he's in the lineup he will be a center. Both Boyd and Eller are capable of playing the wing and 1 of them will IMO.
Kubby31
I fully expect to see Eller in the lineup coming out of training camp. Would be nice...and to see him have a decent season....may help some in easing the pain for us,(Halak trade)......just a thought.

hatethosebruins
I'm starting to think that we may have signed him as some part of a future plan, maybe AK is on the trading block or going to be at some point this season, trading him we need a new winger, maybe we'll get one in return or trade so and so for a few prospects or picks, this way we don't have alot of our prospects playing full time low mins in the NHL and can get some ice time in Hamilton...That and so we don't ruin anyones development. Snow4Habs
So that's what Price has been doing all while we were waiting for him to sign. So does this mean there's a trade in the works probably Maxwell included in a deal?

Habs-101
This was definitely a good signing... essentially he is a useful version of Darche, I really dont understand why we re-signed Darche. Halpern gives us a top quality faceoff guy (has been a top 10 % faceoff guy in the league almost his entire career) He was captain of the capitals for two seasons He was runner up for rookie of the year to Gomez He has playoff and league experience he signed for 600k, cant go wrong its a depth guy that fills the role he is going to be needed for way better than Darche... koreysecord1992
Eh, wasn't expecting this move (or anything like it for that matter), but I'll wait until the season is underway before casting any stones (or praises). Welcome to the Habs, Jeff.

JuniorSTLB
Too many players for the bottom six.... Moen, Lapierre, Pyatt, Boyd, Darche, Eller.... Bulldogs crew.... and Halpern. So now we end up with 4 defensive forwards (Moen, Pyatt, Boyd(?), Halpern). Nice?
fourtrax
I guess your not exactly thrilled with the signing eh ? Gonna take a roster spot away from one of thos prospects with potential It's not that I'm unhappy with it. I kind of feel the way roy does: it's a boring trade that I really don't care about one way or another. Jeff Halpern isn't going to make or break our season, and at his price tag, he's not even guaranteed ice time or a spot ahead of one of our rookies. "We are the MTV generation. We experience neither highs nor lows." "So how does it feel?" "Meh." *shrug*
thepriceisright
He fills the void of a Metropolit and Moore , he will be very useful come playoffs , you need those players in your lineup in crucial games , he will help , and it didn't cost us a whole lot. Only downside for me is, could they have gotten Ryan Johnson instead ? Otherwise , it's a move we'll have to wait and see later on down the road . If these 4 players gives our top 6 lines more rest, then it'll give us more energy when playoffs starts, and especially during the playoffs. Halpern is great addition and brings in veteran presence and leadership to our bottom six. Darche knows his role to our team and accepts it well when he signed his contract.
