Detroit opens its season against San Diego today at 4:05 p.m. In San Diego. Three immediate questions are: will a revamped offensive front line be able to keep Matthew Stafford upright, will Stafford be accurate with his passes, and can the defensive front step up and compensate for the loss of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairly who left via free agency?

Overconfidence and an inability to respond to San Diego adjustments allow the Chargers to come back from a 21-3 deficit to claim a 33-28 win over Detroit. The Lions dominated both sides of the ball getting two sacks and two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown and the other an interception in the end zone on a poor throw. In the second, Detroit turned the ball over twice, on of which San Diego converted into a touchdown and could not get any pressure on Phillip Rivers and not surprisingly were pick apart on screens and underneath patterns - all for a total of 404 yards. San Diego dominated on both sides of the ball in the second half.

The most mindboggling performance Sunday goes to the New York Giants for allowing Dallas to score on its final two possessions to take a 27-26 win. Eli Manning compounded the problem by forgetting how many timeouts Dallas had and told his running not to score while leading 23-20 with under two minutes left when a touchdown likely seals the win. The Giants had first and goal from the four yard line. Curious play calling for a pass on third down contributed when Manning threw the ball away instead of taking a sack. so also add poor clock management. That would allow Tony Romo to throw a touchdown pass with seven seconds and the no longer automatic extra point gave the Cowboys the win.

Cincinnati defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones has been fined $35,000 for ripping the helmet off Oakland receiver Amari Cooper and slamming his head against it. To the surprise of no one, Jones will appeal the fine, considering he led a possee into a Las Vegas gentlemen's club that resulted in a man left paralyzed.

Minnesota dominates Detroit on both sides of the ball in a 26-16 win. The Vikings ran up 199 yards on the ground and 153 through the air. Adrian Peterson gained 134 yards on the ground on 29 carries. Their defensive unit stuffed the Lions ground game and spent the game teeing off on quarterback Matthew Stafford despite getting only one sack. Key penalties and turnovers also hurt Detroit with one of those penalties nullifying a turnover and that led to Minnesota's third score. An inability by Detroit to take advantage of Minnesota's only turnover and a punt return deep into Lions' territory resulted in Minnesota's second score.

Detroit continues to struggle on both sides of the ball in a 24-12 loss to Denver. Peyton lit up Detroit's secondary for 324 yards on 31 of 42 passing taking advantage of mismatches on a few occasions, including a 45 yard touchdown pass at the end of the first half. Detroit also struggled on offense getting only 29 yards on the ground on 18 carries and after three games, are tied with Denver at a league worst 2.6 yards per rush. The front line also allowed four sacks against Matthew Stafford who compounded the problem with some poor decision making. Two interceptions which were thrown into coverage and a fumble on a play in which Stafford had a least one chance to throw the ball away contributed.
