Rivalry

Newcomer Lars Eller will find himself on the left wing on a line with Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta tomorrow night as the Canadiens entertain the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre.

Eller usually plays centre but he said today he's comfortable on the wing and he'll play wherever the organization wants him to play as long as he has a spot on the team.

Benoit Pouliot played with Gomez and Gionta for a good portion of last season and he's under some heat to step up his game. He was one of the Canadiens' better forwards in a 4-2 loss to Boston last night.

The lineup tomorrow features the players who didn't dress last night. The other lines should look like this: Andrei Kostitsyn - Dustin Boyd - Mathieu Darche; James Wyman - Andreas Engqvist - Dany Massé; Ryan White - David Desharnais - Max Pacioretty.

Alex Henry and P.K. Subban will be paired on defence and Alexandre Picard will play with Ryan O'Byrne. We'll also see two of the following four: Marc-Antoine Desnoyers, Kyle Klubertanz, Mathieu Carle and Brendon Nash.

Alex Auld will start in goal and play 30 minutes. Coach Jacques Martin declined to say which goalie will finish the game but he said he won't go back to Carey Price, whose next appearance will be Saturday in Ottawa. Martin will decide between Robert Mayer and Peter Delmas.

1st comment actually related to the game and not the Kool-aid man  . Can't wait for the Habs - Sens. Will be a crucial game for Carey Price to see how he can bounce back after having a bad game against Boston. Also excited to see new players play for the first time in preseason. PK subban highlights that list, do we have a roster for the game yet? If somebody has that could they please post it.... or it could be that it hasn't been released yet.

this game im very excited about. I really think that one of Pouliot or Eller will be the PERFECT fit for Gio & Gomez. Even though Pouliot has the advantage in the experience dept, from the games Ive seen Eller play (albeit not much in the nhl!) I really think he may have the mustard to complement them. Pouliot has all the skills but Im still not sold on his hockey sense yet.

For those saying Eller would be better served at centre: I can think of one guy who switched to wing when he broke into the league (because htere was no space at centre for him) and had several very productive seasons there before finally going back to his natural position of centre. His name? Vinny Damphousse. Its no comparison between the two at all (they're quite different players) simply pointing out that players can be effective in one position and then switch back to their natural position & be effective there too sometimes. ;)

Thank You Clues for the GDT. You keep out-doing yourself. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing some more of our prospects, especially seeing Eller on the top line. I am REALLY excited for this year. last year was a "get to know you year", but this year most everyone, will know what each of their teamates are capable of doing. There are very few spots available, so I hope that over the pre-season games, someone will stand out, and grab the "brass ring".
