Talk about hands of glass ... Stop fighting lol

He can quit talking while he's at it.

The latest in his diva-fest:

"I’m used to the criticism,” Souray said. "You can’t please everyone once people get an opinion. I think Edmonton’s done a pretty good job, the organization’s done a good job, of trying to form an opinion of my character and my personality. Once people jump on that and make an assumption for themselves, it’s hard to do anything right. We’ve seen it before. Not just my situation. Players, they get a certain reputation and no matter what they do it just doesn’t seem like it’s enough."

You make your own bed, Souray.

Anyone still sorry we didn't resign him?

Normally I wouldn't consider taking him back, but given our current injury situation and we'd get him at half-price I think Gauthier should strongly consider putting in a claim.

At this point ( assuming he's a UFA after this season) i would agree. A little added depth for the SHORT term.

Yes it's not that bad of an idea considering our current blueline situation.

agreed...wouldn't hurt....would not cost alot.

Doesn't he have another year left after this one at 5+? I was one of the fans that did not want to see him go and I was quite upset that we lost him. However, 4 years later things seem to have changed and I think we could use that much cap space a little wiser. Had Sheldon been playing in the NHL all season and stayed healthy I would put in a claim, but as it is, I would rather give Nash or another youngster a shot. Either way, Souray or Nash, neither one is going to put us over the top as a contender, so lets save the cap space as far as Sheldon is concerned.

If he has another year left then i would maybe reconsider,, even though Edmonton would be paying half of that Cap hit. I'd want to see if he still has NHL value as a player before committing even half that money for him. He would provide some added toughness back there on D,,, along with that big boomer of his on the PP.

His shot, his toughness, leadership, team attitude were some of the reasons I liked him, but if he is going to break his hand every time he gets in a fight, we would lose him every time we play Boston. Even at 50% that is a lot for a slap shot, I don't hate the idea, but I don't think I would do it. But if it got the powerplay back on track ......

Looks like another year after this one.

Souray became an unrestricted free agent and, on July 12, 2007, he signed a 5-year, $27 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

It's a concern, but at half price for a single year where we could be short dmen anyways, it's a risk I'd be willing to take to try and help out this year. I prefer having to deal with a 2 or 3 million cap hit next season (and we may get a decent player out of it) than giving up picks to get a rental.

In terms of this season, the "half-price" is kind of irrelevant. I'm not 100% sure, but assuming we have a ton of cap space due to injuries.

He is signed through next season, on re-entry it would be a 2.7 cap hit for the rest of this year and next, although actual salary would be lower since his contract front loaded and you only pay half of what's left. You'd pay him pro rated 2.25 for this season and 2.25 actual dollars next season.

Then I could see it happening. PG?

Wouldn't touch him. He's only a shadow of the player he was when he was here. His stats in the AHL haven't been so great either: 3 goals, 10 assists in 26 games.

Not horrible, I haven't watched him down there but it could be that his effort/enthusiasm is less than 100%.

Souray cleared waives without anybody being genuinely interested.

I'm happy we didn't do it I guess, I really think he's over the hill after all those injuries and nowhere near the player he used to be. On the other hand, having a guy with a big point shot who's also willing to drop the gloves with virtually anyone (even though it might not be a good idea :P) could have been useful for half the Cap hit.

Looks like every GM in the League agrees with that statement. Not having seen him play this year at all,, has made it impossible to have a strong opinion one way or the other on Souray. Twenty nine experts cant be all wrong,,,can they??
