Our first line ha done a good job, we're not in first by chance... Tonight though, they look so disorganized. Could be the addition of Markov, throwing everyone off. Scratch the 1st and re-group for the 2nd.

The 1st line played with Hammer and Spacek at the back end for most of the game, cant blame everything on Markov's rust :P

Markov is a great player and we needed him back for the powerplay and to improve our defence but there is something to be said about ruining a good thing and I do believe that putting Markov back in the lineup did change the team chemistry, any player would when he gets put in the lineup or goes out due to injury. I saw this loss coming because I knew we were hot and had a good combination going with team chemistry and removing somebody and adding another changes a lot of things on a team not only the lines but it changed how many minutes certain guys were playing, it also changes guys mentality on the ice when they see a player like Markov on the ice they might play differently. It changes a lot adding a player into a lineup even if the player is Markov. I do agree we needed Markov back in the lineup but I knew it would change team chemistry and tonight it make it worse.

Well, disappointing game all around...lets hope the team rebounds back & get things in order here.

And I also agree, target practice needs work.

Well not a bad game played however I noticed a lot of perimeter shots tossed at Vokoun. The D was caught a few times pinching for the tying goal and left Price stranded on multiple occasions with him making spectacular saves and no on there to clear the rebound. With the exception of Subban, the rest of the D are too slow to go playing like Bobby Orr and trying to rush back and protect...

Honestly, Vokoun wasn't that great. Think about the goals Carey gave up and the goal Vokoun gave up.

Price: 2 rebounds after 2 great saves, 1 penalty shot

Vokoun: 1 goal on a short-side play from Darche

We never pushed Vokoun, we made his life way too easy by firing pucks from bad angles and not being available for rebounds. He was giving up rebounds all night long but rarely were there any Habs in position to capitalize. Last night, we played like we played for most of last season: passively, on the perimeter, without much in the way of hockey smarts and no will to fight for loose pucks in the dirty areas.

Frankly, I think Carey had a much tougher time last night with the ridiculously high quality of scoring chances we allowed.

Or rather, Vokoun stole that game.

Vokoun didn't steal anything. We didn't get to any of our rebounds, what few we had, and we shot everything at his chest. Gionta couldn't flip a puck up into an open net. The PP sucks, just flat out sucks, and couldn't hit a net if it was 10x10. All of this coupled with poor man coverage is the reason why we didn't walk out of last nights game with at least a point.

I agree with the over team chemistry comment but I fail to see how it changes how the same unit of 5 guys (13-14-46-6-44) who have played together for a fair stretch of games have their play impacted because 79 or anyone else is on the bench while they're on the ice.

Completely agreed. I thought Price played a pretty solid game. You can't fault a goalie for giving up a penalty shot, and the last goal was a total flub from our defense, giving up the puck, failing to communicate who was taking what player, and not clearing the trailer from the front of the net.

I've mentioned a couple of times that players like Cammalleri need to go harder into the corners for loose pucks, several times a game I notice him stopping short and letting the opponent get in first. Markov has a tendency to do that too. Those are two very talented players, but you'd like to see them up the compete level a little bit outside of their offensive talents. Gionta and Gomez have just not shown the concentration or imagination needed to finish.

On the other hand, I love what I've seen from Plekanec, Halpern, Darche, and AK over the past 2-3 games. AK was largely responsible for that last Florida goal, but overall he's played with a lot of hustle so I think overall the game was another positive performance. I even think Pouliot has brought some good things to the line-up. But the top-tier players outside of Pleks and AK need to pick up their game because two players can't provide all the offense over the long term and I don't see the 3rd and 4th lines being productive over the long haul either. Despite Moen's solid play in the last couple of games, I still want to see Pouliot in the top 6 and I've already argued that a second option would be swapping Gionta for Cammalleri. Something needs to be done to jump start the second line because it doesn't look like it's getting itself going any time soon.

I agree entirely with you. Not a whole bunch of quality shots, although Gionta was robbed a couple of times in front of the net :( . Price made some wonderful saves, and when he was scored on, (aside from the penalty shot), he stopped the initial shot but had no defensemen to clear the rebound. Traveled from across Canada to see my first game at the Bell Centre, and I must say, despite the loss, the atmosphere was amazing. By far the best I've ever experienced at a sporting event.. and the Canadiens weren't even winning! ;)

Go Habs Go!
