How Did You Propose To Your Spouse?

I admit that I have been married twice. Both of them were failed marriages. I don't remember the first proposal, but I sure do remember the second proposal.

I was still married to wife #1 (separated), but I was living with wife-to-be #2. I was working a 3:30 to midnight shift and came home to the apartment on a Fri. night. I had bought a ring for her but didn't know how to go about asking her. I got into the bath, (no shower in the apt.), and she came in to talk (usually about nothing, :P ) I had the ring where she couldn't see it and then I gave it to her and popped the question.

Yea,,,,,,,,,,,kinda dumb,,,I know.

She said yes. After divorce from wife #1,,,,I married wife #2,,,was married for 31 years, separated again now.

How did you propose to your spouse?

Well lets see.

It was right after a very snowy patch in calgary - about 4 inches of snow that night, but maybe 12 -14 inches total on the ground.

I pretended that my car was stuck, so I went to work via the train.

I left work early and got off at my stop and then went to the grassy slopes that border the road the Train runs along. I spent the next few hrs writing "I LOVE YOU MAGS. WILL YOU MARRY ME?" in the snow in 4' letters. I basically stomped out these large letters then filled them with rocks - from a distance (ie the road) it was really visible.

Then I went back to the station, called my wife & said "the roads are better now, can you pick me up from the station rather than me taking the bus?"

funny thing is that she didnt see it on the way there!! On the way back she wanted to go a different way & I was like "no, go this way, its way faster" and she said ok. As we approached it she said "what is that?" pointing at the writing. She started to read it outloud & by about halfway through she realized I had done it.

She said yes & 10 years later she's still putting up with me :)

Awww :P

That's so cute jedimaas.

I think it worked out better that she didn't see it on the way there, that way you were in the car together when she saw it.But with proposals I guess it's just what happens happens and you hope it works out right. Or (and this is sorta movie-like) she saw it on the way there and then when she picks you up she runs into your arms saying "yes".

That's definitely aww worthy though.

Feb.25, 1987 Ski trip to Mte. Ste. Anne, She was still in University. I had graduated 2 years before. Had dinner in Old Quebec City, then took a walk on the Boardwalk by Chateau Frontenac. Pulled the ring out of my pocket and popped the question. She had no clue it was comming! Married in Aug. '88, 22 years ago!...yes, still married...to her!
