From NHL.com

BRUINS (16-9-4) at CANADIENS (18-11-2)

TV: CBC (HD), RDS (HD), NHLN-US (HD), NESN (HD)

Last 10: Boston 5-3-2; Montreal 5-4-1

Season series: Second of six meetings this season between these Northeast Division rivals. Montreal won 3-1 in Boston on Nov. 11 with Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez scoring third-period goals and Carey Price making 34 saves. P.K. Subban also scored for the Canadiens while Zdeno Chara had the Bruins' lone goal.

Big story: Boston gets another opportunity to move into a first-place tie with Montreal in the Northeast. The Canadiens fell at home to the NHL-leading Flyers on Wednesday, their season-high third straight defeat, but the Bruins yielded a hat trick to the Sabres' Drew Stafford and lost in Buffalo.

Team Scope:

Bruins: Playing with the lead didn't seem to suit Boston on Wednesday, as they coughed up a pair of one-goal advantages in very short order. David Krejci opened the scoring with 2:31 left in the first period, but Stafford responded for Buffalo 72 seconds later. Michael Ryder's go-ahead power-play goal at 6:21 of the third was answered by Stafford in only 32 seconds. Stafford then completed the three-goal game with 9:05 left, as the Sabres handed the Bruins a 3-2 defeat. Two of his scores came on man advantages.

"Our penalty kill has got to be better," coach Claude Julien said. "It was not on top of its game. We gave them the shots and the looks they wanted, and we didn't react very well."

Canadiens: Three days off to prepare wasn't enough for Montreal against high-flying Philadelphia, which played for the second night in a row. To the Canadiens' credit, they did rally from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to even the score on a Gionta goal midway through the third period, but James van Riemsdyk netted his second of the game and Claude Giroux added insurance 61 seconds later as the Habs dropped a 5-3 decision.

"For the most part, we did a lot of good things. We've got to figure out how to make it 60 minutes," Gionta said. "If you don't put yourself in a hole like that you have a much better chance of coming out with a win. We did a good job of battling back in the second and third but those mistakes hurt us."

Who's hot: Krejci has 1 goal and 4 assists during a four-game points streak for the Bruins. Tim Thomas, expected to start Thursday, leads the League in goals-against average (1.51) and save percentage (.954). ... Michael Cammalleri has 3 goals and 3 assists during a five-game points streak for the Canadiens.

Injury report: Rookie forward Tyler Seguin missed Boston's game Wednesday with flu-like symptoms. Defenseman Mark Stuart is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a broken finger on his right hand. ... Montreal got forward Scott Gomez back in the lineup Wednesday and is missing only defenseman Andrei Markov, who is on injured reserve following season-ending knee surgery.

Stat pack: Bruins forward Mark Recchi became the ninth NHL player to reach the 1,600-game plateau against the Sabres. ... Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban, who sat out several games earlier this month as a healthy scratch, had a goal and an assist against the Flyers but was minus-2 after posting a minus-3 in Saturday's loss to the Maple Leafs.

Puck drop: This is Montreal's final home game of the 2010 calendar year -- they begin a seven-game road trip Sunday in Colorado. In his post-game press conference Wednesday, coach Jacques Martin was blunt about why things have gone south of late.

"I expect players to play within the system," he said. "When we have good support, when we work, when we have five in the picture, we're very effective. When we don't, we're not."

They don't look too tough to beat.

Nice GDT! I like the sketched pics. Good touch. You draw those yoursself? :P

Hopefully we put ourselves back on track. Not only is this game important because we need cannot give Boston the two points that they need for the lead but.. it's Boston - we need to beat them anyways.

Go Habs!

Nice GDT HRF. Lets hope that cute little raindeer suffers the same fate as the Rudolf float did in that recent parade. Instead of a traffic light,, there gonna run into a peeved Habs team.

more useful info though some is redundant

The Canadiens will start Carey Price tonight in a bid to snap the team's three-game losing streak, and the opposition Bruins will counter with Tim Thomas, who's enjoying a brilliant season in Beantown, in a bid to end Boston's two-game skid.

This morning, Montreal sent forward Dustin Boyd, who twice has cleared waivers the past month, to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Both teams had optional skates this morning, both coming off games last night. About a dozen Canadiens took part, while the Bruins held a team meeting then booted around a soccer ball at the Bell Centre.

Boston rookie Tyler Seguin will be a game-time decision, having missed his team's Dec. 11 game vs. Philadelphia with flu-like symptoms. He was scratched last night in Buffalo.

Bruins' Mark Recchi, the former Canadien, will play his 1,601st NHL game tonight.

HRF I like your GDT style

As good as any for a while

I love the pics that someone drew

That's real talent,is it you?

Now tonight game is a must

We have to show the Booins some dust

They are two points behind with games in hand

This is the real world not goo goo land

We have to make our presence felt

This is not the time to start to melt

We need some life on the back end

This is not a holiday to spend

Slipping and sliding on the ice

We need some D not just Price

We cannot expect Carey to do it all

As from the top of the division we fall

So come on you guys where's our team

You have to skate hard be,really mean

We know your play wasn't bad

But we didn't get the points,to be had

It's those bears we face tonight

Another loss would not be right

GO HABS GO :D :D

I made it into one of you're poems. I feel so cool. B)

Awesome GDT HRF those goalie drawings are amazing!

Let's snap this undeserving 3 game slump and kick some Booins arse. Hopefully the refs will be more kind and actually call a fair game tonight.

and thank you King :D

Last nights loss was hard to take

A dent in Bobs armour we couldn't make

Tonight we are up against the goalie that's no 1

We have to push harder than we have done

We have to shoot as many as we have before

But they must go in the net to score

Our d was nowhere couldn't be found

Tonight we must see them safe and sound

But we are not down we are not out

We will work even harder in this bout

About my team I am not giving up

That's not the way you win the cup

So we have lost three in a row

Happens to every one don't you know

But we cannot give up the top of the division

About our lines JM needs to make a revision

Whatever it is it cannot be bad

We have as much talent there is to be had

Some of our players are in a slump

They just need a kick start and a bump

Tonight's the night it needs to be

Just pray to the hockey gods along with me

GO HABS GO :D :D

A Prayer to the Hockey Gods

Please give Cammi some extra goal

Please give Gomez much more soul

Please give Ak a lot of hits

Please get Gill out of the s****

Please stop PK from making mistakes

It's the simple stuff that has what it takes

Please give Carey the patience to stop every puck

He has the skill he needs some luck

Please help Marky get over his injury

He gives the team a lot of synergy

Please help Benny get to the net

He will score you can bet

Pleks and Halpern are doing fine

Make sure it stays that way down the line

Please give Lars a place to play

Where he can fit and always stay

Please give Laps more time on ice

He can use it without paying a price

Please give the Cheques some extra legs

With a lot more speed she begs

Just don't let Gorges get hurt by a shot

Without him there our lucks in the pot

Please give Darche some extra speed

Please give Gio the strenght to lead

Please give some help to Patches

We don't need him as healthy scratches

Please make Picard just a bit harder

Our D needs something in the larder

If there is a name I haven't mentioned

I am sorry it was not intentioned

So please hockey gods can't you see

We need help so winners we can be

GO HABS GO
