Clues
From habsinsideout: Lapierre to Anaheim? posted by Mike Boone at 15h39 EST on Dec 31 Confirmed by Martin McGuire on CKAC. Pierre Gauthier, who had a one-on-one talk with Lapierre yesterday, will be making an announcement shortly. McGuire reports Lapierre has complained of his limited ice time in Jacques Martin's system. Yvon Pedneault, on CKAC, says Lapierre has been unhappy for a month. The radio station has gone into mourning at the loss of a homeboy. We can expect Verdi's Requiem momentarily. Lapierre played 10:46 in Tampa Bay last night but only 4:08 in Washington Thursday. Lapierre as five goals, three assists and a team-high 63 PiM this season. His minus-7 ties Scott Gomez for team worst. Lapierre was averaging 11:41 ToI. Only Mathueu Darche, Benoit Pouliot and Lars Eller played less. Lapierre will be 26 in March. He was the Canadiens's second-round draft choice, their third pick (behind Andrei Kostitsyn and Cory Urquhart) and 61st overall, in 2003 http://www.habsinsideout.com/main/42413

weepingminotaur
Return will be minimal at best. Seriously, folks, don't get your hopes up. Probably a bazillionth-round pick and a cup of coffee. This is a move to accommodate an unhappy player and to free up roster / cap space following the Wisniewski trade and the recall of Desharnais. Can't say I'll shed too many tears if the rumor is true and Laps is indeed gone.
31Careyprice
hopefully a couple of picks to compensate the James W( how to spell his last Polish name) trade.

Ducks just lost a top 5 league center and are gonna need a lower line replacement and they already have their feasible prospects with the team. This trade helps both teams I believe. Nine1One
according, to the guys at the ducks forums deschamps is a two way scorer, more upside than laps.
roy_133
Deal is done now. Habs get FESTERLING & 5th in 2012 http://twitter.com/#!/Real_ESPNLeBrun/status/20958591754178560

I wasn't aware of the Ducks' injury situation, which explains the higher return (if it's indeed Deschamps). The acquisition of a French-Canadian forward to replace the just-departed French-Canadian forward might actually silence the anté-chambre crowd. Deal is done now. Habs get FESTERLING & 5th in 2012 http://twitter.com/#...958591754178560 Who the hell is Festerling? Sounds like the lowest-ranked Orc in Sauron's army. roy_133
another D? lol he's at best a 7th guy but really, he's just going to be Hamilton depth because he's not better than Picard.

Okay, so the return on this trade is pretty much what I initially expected: a low pick (5th round) and a cup of coffee (Festerling). Edit: not a knock on Festerling but a spare part is a spare part. Guest Regis2
Trade has Bob Gainey written all over it You trade a player who can play and get absolutley nothing in return So the next guy who asks to be traded ( AK, BP, PK ) do we accomodate them to
jennifer_rocket
Surprised by the move, but not overly caring of it either. I guess I just wasn't expecting the team hits leader to get traded. I have never been a big fan if Lapierre, but I thought he was doing a decent job in his limited role this season. I am assuming a lot fans are going to be upset by this.
Max-Hab-Fan
Sad to see Lapierre go, but we do have a ton of guys in the system that can perform his job as well or maybe better for cheaper. Good luck on the Coast!
Nine1One
He's 6th or 5th d as per the ducks fans. He doesn't make many mistakes though. weepingminotaur
Trade has Bob Gainey written all over it You trade a player who can play and get absolutley nothing in return I had a feeling that someone would make the Gainey comparison, but IMO it's inapt. First, how does Lapierre 'play'? What does it mean to say 'he can play'? Leaving aside the intangibles, he is a disposable lower-line agitator with nonexistent vision and little offensive upside. If you thought we'd get more than a bag of pucks for him in a trade, I have some real estate in Florida to sell you. ;) As for the return, Festerling is a farm-team-strengthener to compensate for Subban, Weber, and Picard's departure from Hamilton, while the 5th-round pick is pretty much the only form of compensation we could have gotten for Lapierre that didn't involve wasting a roster spot on another depth player. Frankly, I'd rather have the pick (offsetting the picks we just sent to Long Island for Wisniewski) than another fourth-line forward eating up cap space and taking up a roster spot. So the next guy who asks to be traded ( AK, BP, PK ) do we accomodate them to All different players with different current market values and no indication that any are unhappy enough to request a trade. Not sure why you're making this leap.
RSD
I guess this is what he gets for wasting a 4 on 2 opportunity against Tampa last night...
weepingminotaur
For those overly inclined to mourn Maxim Lapierre's departure: 10-11: 8 points (5/3) and -7 in 38 GP 09-10: 14 points (7/7) and -14 in 76 GP 08-09: 28 points (15/13) and +9 in 79 GP This is basically Steve Begin all over again. He had one decent season that was probably the result of good bounces and being in the right place at the right time. Since then, he's done nothing to justify his $900k cap hit. He's 26, which means that what we've seen in the past few years is probably about as good as he'll get.
