Game #69 – Habs @ Penguins – 2pm ET – RDS, CBC, FS-P

This early afternoon game features the Montreal Canadiens (37-24-7)

Vs the Pittsburgh Penguins (39-21-8)

At the

The Last Game

The Habs are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Blues on Thursday in a rather lackluster game. Given the circumstances I don’t blame them. The loss on Thursday marked the end of a five game winning streak (which is also the number of games Brent Sopel has played for the Habs). But now its time to pull on the big boy pants and get a big win for MaxPac.

Where We’re At

The Habs are currently (as of noon Friday) 6th at 81 points, and aren’t likely to move for a little bit. The Sabres and the Rangers sit at 7th and 8th with 74 points each, while the Lightning sit in 5th place with 84 points and a game tonight which can move them further up in the standings from us with a win over the Senators, which would put them in a tie situation with the Penguins at 86 points (though the Penguins have a better goal ratio).

Previous Meetings

October 13, 2010 - MTL 3 @ PIT 2 - Winning Goalie: Price, GWG: Gomez

January 6, 2011 - PIT 1 @ MTL 2 - Winning Goalie: Price, GWG: Pouliot

January 12, 2011 - PIT 5 @ MTL 2 - Winning Goalie: Fleury, GWG: Staal

The Injury Situation

Montreal Canadiens

  • Markov (knee)
  • Gorges (knee)
  • Spaceck (knee)
  • Darche (groin)
  • Pacioretty (neck/concussion)
  • Sopel, day to day, (hand)

Pittsburgh Penguins

  • Crosby (concussion)
  • Malkin (knee)
  • Asham (shoulder)
  • Tangradi (concussion)
  • Johnson [forward] (wrist)
  • Orpik (finger)

My roommate (Penguins Fan) concludes we’ll be playing Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins instead of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Lines

I’m going to assume there won’t be much change from the Blues game, though the lines did juggle a bit. There is no practice scheduled on Friday so it is unlikely that any lines will be published until game time.

As per usual, I don’t care about the other teams lines and will not comment on them.

I'll assume the goalies will be:

But What Does It All Mean?

It means we need a win, and we should get a win. I’m not going to make a prediction though and there will not be a poll on this. But I’m hoping the guys are able to pull together and bring on the hurt on Saturday and get our winning ways back.

The Fearless Prediction

A loss will result in a trip to the alley for FH10.

Will the boys bounce out of this funk??

Will we resume our pre "Max hit" play??

Will the Penguins waken the sleeping bear within the Habs???

Stay tuned for all those answers.

Great GDT man with too many letters in his name

I hope you have posted for us a winning game

We have to put things behind us, get back on track

We need the heart that last game we did lack

So come on lads we can't give up

Games like the last won't get us the cup

We all feel just like you

But I am afraid there is nothing we can do

We need you to play like you are on fire

Or else there maybe forwards for hire

You have to get back in the winning mindset

The season is no where near over yet

Then we have the playoffs to come

We will kick those teams up the b**

Now we have something to prove

But you have to win,you cannot lose

There is nothing else to say

HABS you have to get out and play
