GreekHockeyCoach
Thank you Habs for a great season. Despite all the injuries to key players, you somehow managed to finish sixth and gave the Bruins one hell of a battle in a tough seven game series. The future looks bright with rising stars like Subban, Eller, Pacioretty, Desharnais, White, Weber, Pyatt and of course our MVP Price. That's a good core of young players and with the leadership of our veteran core players we'll have many opportunities in the years to come to challenge for Lord Stanley's cup. Cheers Habs! I also want to take this opportunity, on behalf of the moderating team, to thank all of you, the members, that make this the best online hockey forum. Cheers to all of you! weepingminotaur
I'd like to give a special thanks to the coaches: Martin, Muller, Pearn, and Groulx. Somehow, they managed to scrape us into 6th place despite decimating injuries at key positions. Too often, coaches are both blamed and praised for things they can't control. To me, Groulx deserves some credit for Carey's resurgence , which has been more mental than physical or positional. Thanks to Pearn, Muller, and above all Martin, the team finally gained an identity, a definable and (when executed properly) effective system that put us in a position to win most nights, even when we came out on the wrong end of the scoresheet. What's more, that system wasn't a static, Carbonneau-esque straitjacket that we tried to implement even when missing key parts, but a flexible system which Jacques modified as and when injuries struck. In years past, would we have even been able to make the playoffs without Markov for an entire season, let alone finish 6th and force an OT game 7? I doubt it. But thanks to Martin's ability to adjust, the team now knows how to survive and thrive even when missing some of its best players (and cue the Gomez jokes in 3, 2, 1 ... ). In summary, kudos to the coaches.

It always amazed me to hear people getting on Martin's case whenever we lost a game. I'm not one of them, because I first got exposed to Martin and his style of coaching when he was at St. Louis, and the Wings had to play him all the time. He got something out of nearly nothing. He took so much heat when Ottawa kept underachieving, much of it unfairly. I love what he has done, and as this team improves offensively, he'll adjust again. He has built the identity, now we need some more pieces. Personally, I think this guy is the right coach for this team at this time.

That's what I like most, I'm confident that if the core of our roster shifts, he'll shift slightly in philosophy to maximize what he has. I don't want to turn this into the Jacques Martin thread or another useless debate but Weep is right, big kudos the whole staff for this season. As for the players, there's a fair bit of issues, size up front, scoring consistency, health, age on the back end but heart was never one of them. Taking away the Habs colored glasses I still don't remember having a young duo as exciting and promising as Carey and PK. It was a joy to watch them both transform as the season went on, 1 from a raw defensive liability and the other from probably our biggest overall question mark in September and the guy facing arguably the most pressure in the league into 2 budding stars. I'm mostly comfortable with our core and I'm excited to see what Gauthier does with the roster flexibility afforded to him this summer. It's hard to have such a sudden end really, this is probably the least prepared I ever was to have a Habs season end (the obvious 06-07 debacle is right there). All season it takes up so much of your life, waiting to watch, watching, assessing, thinking about it, talking about it, reading it about, trying not to think about it lol. Bring on the draft and free agency.
Cenner_Hice
I'd like to say lots of wirds like those above. I'll, instead, say read the above. I agree. Through adversity, a good season for which the players, coaches and rest of the team can be proud. Instead of words, I think a triple low five will do. Flying_Lion
Good call, GHC! I had to console my mother last night, who took it pretty hard. Along the way, I convinced myself too that there was no reason to be disappointed except for the end of the season. The Team fought for everything. The word 'adversity' has been thrown around a lot in columns and articles I read but that's because it's the perfect word. I remember the pundits saying in September that we'd be battling for the last spot. Yeah, to an extent we were, but we secured before the last game. We could have done better, even. PK shut all his detractors up, didn't he? I think he's proven himself just fine and, hopefully, established himself a reputation that will precede him. Carey? After Halak, after the preseason boos, he calmly stepped into the role we'd been holding for him: that of #1 goaltender and dressing room leader. Gionta. Wearing the C for the CH can't be easy but he played like he knew what it meant. A suitable follow-up to Saku. Speaking of #11. Aside from his salary, which is not his fault, I can't begrudge his effort in the post-season. I will always remember that, without him, we wouldn't have Gio or Cammalleri. Ahhh, Cammalleri. If he can stay healthy, he's not even 29 yet! The potential! Another player that wears his heart on the front of his jersey. So many other players. The whole blueline deserves kudos. I love Sopel and Wiz. Nothing against Hammer and Spacek but they're expensive. I heart Moen, too. I've probably missed quite a few people, Pleks and the coaching stuff to name the most glaring, but I just wanted to extend my gratitude for a great season. Here's to hope for next year. Golf well, Team. You deserve it. & special thanks to all the members. I don't post everywhere but I do a lot of reading. Thanks for being there. CANADIENS27
The finish was disappointing, but to make it this far with a decimating was something a lot of people didn't expect. Hopefully, Gauthier will be able to draft some defensemen and maybe a top goal scorer this summer.
habs_93
I feel privileged to have seen all but two or three games played this season. What memories! The shutouts. The great saves. The great shots. The triple low-fives. The poses. P.K.'s first regular season goal, P.K.'s first hat trick. Ryan White's first Gordie Howe hat trick, in the same game! Dave Stubbs' hat trick pin. Pouliot's Forsberg. Krejci's glass jaw. Carey's save on LaRose. P.K. at the ASG. Komisarek's assist to Cammy. Saku coming back to the Bell Centre. P.K.'s hit on Marchand. Watching playoff hockey in April, after enough injuries to fill a small emergency room. Such heart and spirit. Good times. I refuse to be unduly sad. AK-1
A big thank you should be in order. They battled hard all season long and during all the playoffs, what more can you ask for? We had significant injuries in Markov, Gorges and Pacioretty and still managed to take the favoured-by-experts-to-win-in-four Bruins to the overtime of the 7th game. Sure, if just one more puck had gone their way, they had this series. But what can you do, that's part of hockey. You win some, you lose some. We've seen our young players grow (e.g. Price, Subban, Eller, Pacioretty) and they already have me excited for next season.
jedimaas
I echo the sentiments of most habs' fans. Ultimately you cant get much closer than OT in game 7 of a series. Add to that the fact that the bruins won only ONE of their 4 games in regulation & you have to think that a bounce here or there - or maybe 1 guy back from injury - and we would have been able to get past them. Thats one heck of a feat with the injuries and adversity this team has faced this year. You never want to lose a playoff series, but this is about the best case scenario to do so. Hard fought and some great playoff games for our youngsters. Price played like a stalwart, PK improved on his sensational playoff run last year and Eller started to find his groove in the last few games. I think this team will be all the more strong come this time next year. I wish PG all the best in his reworking of the team. IMHO there are 2 major questions for him this year: 1) Markov. 2) Gomez. If he can decide whether or not to take a risk on Markov and whether or not to keep Gomez, then the rest should fall into place. I dont envy him, although on the one hand he has a lot of flexibility with which to make changes. Good luck habs - cant wait until October
S-Bah
Thanks to the Montreal Canadiens for icing a team that's capable of competing for the Stanley Cup yearly again. As a fan from the glory years I'm sincerely impressed with the team's effort from the top down and vice versa. The Hamilton Bulldogs are still fighting for the Calder Cup as was the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in the 70's giving us as fans even more to look forward to in the coming years. Thanks again S.Bah or Habs! Guest
This was one of the more exciting Hab teams to watch,, from Carey's break out year to PK's entertaining style of hockey. This team has left me with high hopes going forward. A bit of tweaking, and hopefully a healthier year,, and we'll be fighting for that crown shortly. THANK YOU HABS for leaving it all on the ice this year. Enjoy the rest and get yourselves ready for the ride next year.It should be a good one.
