The NHL Is Getting Ridiculous

I've heard they're cracking down on things, but I feel its getting a bit out of hand. I mean I understand they're all copyrights, but c'mon man, there's logos, unlicensed merch, go habs go, and so on plastered all over montreal. Heck, even in New Brunswick and I'm sure many other provinces you see stuff like this.

I enjoyed a comment on one website I've seen though.

"They should walk through Vancouver. They could sue enough people to make the Thrashers profitable!"

Wow, and $89,000? I don't know the restaraunt, but that could be a pretty big hit for a small business to take. I'm sure a legal fight wouldn't go over very well either.

The Fours is a restaurant that has Boston Bruins' logo all over in the restaurant and named several of their food items after players, you can see the menu here:

The Car Dealer in Vancouver & Restaurant in Montreal are peons compared to the "Copyright" violations this place must have going on.

There's nothing on the site that specifies that it's an "Official" restaurant of the Boston Bruins or even an affiliate.

>_>

Y'know what? That's probably what it's all about, too. <_<

I love the priorities of the NHL: let's not worry about the rash of concussion injuries and head shots but we ought to make darned sure nobody visibly supports their hockey team without paying for it.

Makes sense to me.

You know, I think the Habs organization told the NHL about the restaurant.

 WHY?

Maybe it's owned by Cam Neely <_< ,,,,why should the NHL care,,,,,it's free publicity,,and everything gets taken down at the end of the season anyway.

Correct me if I am wrong,,,,,but didn't the NHL issue a warning or something to a radio station that had a promotion wherein a car was painted with another teams logo, and invited contestants to smash the car with a sledgehammer. I only heard this once tho, so I am not sure about it.

Omg, I agree with you... This is getting ridiculous. Even our city buses for the last few years (that I've noticed), have posted in their ticker (where they post the route #) Go Habs Go!

Ok, STM (Montreal public transit) didn't post a picture of a driver wearing a habs jersey, but really, the restaurant owner was simply showing support. Like him, I wonder why the league singled out his restaurant. In my shop, I placed a Habs logo in our front window to show support during the 1st round.

Of all the cities who have a NHL team, this was the only business to have their local teams logo in their window?!?

I live close to Cournoyer's old bar. It has always been a sports bar and they always have Habs logo's in their windows. Once again, it wasn't a pic of one of their waitresses wearing a Habs jersey, but still.

This is going to make me think twice before showing support for our habs in the future.

Guess bettman needs or wants a new car for one of his kids.

What this restaurant owner did, was print up a banner with an employee wearing a jersey. Bit of a gray area I admit, it is an advertisement, I'm sure he's not the first nor the last. To demand almost $90 000 is pushing it. The league could've sent him a letter (legal)asking him to change it and if he refused, then proceed with charges.

Guess gary has found a way to keep the coyotes in Phoenix... Sue Montreal businesses who use the Habs logo on their storefront.

I dont understadn what the problem is entirely. If you live in Montreal a fair chunk of people are going to support montreal, if you live in Vancouver alot of people will support Vancouver. I'm sure they spend alot of money on merchandise, and other NHL material. Whats the problem with printing up a picture of a logo to show you proudly support a team? I sometimes wonder if its going to get to the point where if I buy a jersey with my own name on it Ill get in legal trouble for something
