NewfoundlandHab
Leafs acquired JM Liles for a 2nd round pick. I would have liked for us to pull that trade off. Of course then we would absolutely have to move Spacek. A 2nd rounder for him or even a 3rd and pouliot or something would have been worth it I would like to acquire Burns from MIN to possibly play with Markov

I like the thought, but IMO, we would be way overpaying to get Parise and Pyatt. Gomez and Kristo is too much for Pyatt, and I would rather take Leblanc and a first rounder than Parise, as good as he is. We would have a really deep offense, but our depth beyond the Canadiens, which is very important, would not be good at all.
crazyhorse_8000
Truthfully speaking without resigning at least Hamrlik, Wiz, or equivalent our D core is abysmal. Markov - Gorges Subban - Gill Spacek - Weber Last year our top scorer had 57 points.... thats not in the least bit exciting. We should be desperately seeking a star to play on our top line. Our depth, goaltending, and role players are great.
NewfoundlandHab
If PG could find any kind of trade for Gomez, I think afterwards he should look at getting Jarret Stoll out of LA. With Richards and Kopitar there now they have to be willing to part with him and it probably wont take too much. He has 1 year left on his contract with a cap hit of under half of Gomez's at 3.6M. I don't know exactly what I would offer but he is definitely better than Gomez at 7.3M and it would give Eller and/or DD time to develop before taking on the 2nd line centre role. habs-24
id say dont go after hammer and get bieksa, perhaps shipping spacek somewhere like floride or winnepeg? then offer bieksa a 5 mil 5 year contract? ya but he will get at least that with the Canucks and they will contend for the cup again next year and a few years to come, for him to sign here on a non contending team we would have to up the money

grecohab
If i was P.G i would definetly try something like this: Price(2,75M)-J.D.Desleuriers(0,75M) Markov(5,75M)-Gorges(2,75M) Subban(0,80M)-Gill(2,75M) Hamrlik(1,75M)-Weber(1,0M) EX:Spacek(3,8M)-Emelin(1,0M) Laich(4,25M)-Plekanec(5,00M)-Cammalleri(6,00M) Pacioretty(1,50M)-Gomez(7,37M)-Gionta(5,00M) Kostitsyn(3,25M)-Eller(1,25M)-Desharnais(0,70M) Moen(1,5M)-Konopka(1,5M)-White(0,70M) EX:Darche(0,70M)-Pouliot(0,9M) total cap hit:<59,50M total cap space:<4,8M ADVANTAGES: 1. Lots of space for next year (re-sign Price-Subban, sign UFA) 2. Very strong special teams (pp-pk with Laich) and (f/o % with Konopka) 3. Every forward line has a big body in Laich-Pacioretty-Kostitsyn-Moen 4. Very gritty 4th energy line with all players not shy to drop gloves BEST CASE SENARIOS: 1. Move Spacek for late pick and add a total of 8,5M in space (maybe add another top player) 2. Have the cash to adjust at tradeline in case injuries or bad performance. THOUGHTS: 1. Upgrade from last season, and in very good position to be in 2012-2013 a top-5 cotender. 2. With some chemistry, luck of injuries and strong gaoltending,a very possible playoff berth and maybe a long run. I agree with your thinking there...Parise is a better than all of our forwards. He plays like Gionta (meaning with much heart), but has more talent and size. I don't see that our next 1st rounder will be as good as Parise, since we probably won't be drafting very high (again). Also, Leblanc isn't exactly projected to be superstar material. He's still a question mark. I would have no problem giving up a first and Leblanc in this case.

I don't think Carcillo would be a good it, mainly due to the penchant he has for bad penalties. JM wouldn't put up with a player like that. Besides, think of all the bad blood he'd be bringing to the locker room.

He had an atrocious season in Minny, so bad that they want to buy him out. Similar to what I said about us and Benny, Barker is still a young player with a lot of talent. With the right team, he could become a very good player. I don't think he really fits in here right now, but if we could move Spacek, he becomes more attractive as an option. IceHemi
My lineup Forwards: Andrei Kostitsyn ($3.250m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Mike Cammalleri ($6.000m) Brian Gionta ($5.000m) / David Desharnais ($0.550m) / Max Pacioretty ($1.500m) Patrick O'Sullivan ($0.500m) / Lars Eller ($1.270m) / Mathieu Darche ($0.700m) Tyler Sloan ($0.700m) / Brian Boyle ($0.750m) / Yannick Weber ($1,200m) Ryan White ($0.850m) DEFENSEMEN Andrei Markov ($5.500m) / Alexei Yemelin ($0.984m) P.K. Subban ($0.875m) / Hal Gill ($2.250m) James Wisniewski ($3.250m) / Josh Gorges ($1.500m) Jaroslav Spacek ($3.833m) The 4th line is a checking line with 2 dmen who can sub into the lineup if any dmen go down or get kicked out of the game. This line should get penalty killing time and that would cut down on using the top lines and wearing them out killing penalties. Also Boyle could be used as net presence on power plays, so we are getting a lot of utility from this line and it gives us options. Gomez is gone you play or you're outta here. Patrick O'Sullivan has great hands and a good shot and he might fit in here. If Gomez gets to play, ugg, then Patrick O'Sullivan could be a better fit with Gionta as linemates than Kostitsyn was. I know that Gauthier has offered Hamrlik a 1 year deal, but I feel that Hamrlik is done, too slow and too old. Go with Wisniewski who at 27 years old has not even hit his prime yet. I now have 9 dmen and 8 are playing and that has to provide dividends down the stretch. If we can get some big talent great, but there is going to be lots of competition for those high end players. NewfoundlandHab
Cammi-Pleks-Patches AK-Eller-Gionta Talbot-Desharnais-Darche White-Kanopka-Moen If we can dump Gomez it would be great! Eller and AK played great together and adding a speedy scorer like Gio might make it a good second line. Pleks and Cammis chemistry along with Patches size and grit could be a great, young, fast first line. 3rd line gives us a bit of scoring depth and a line of hard workers. 4th is a very physical shutdown line that NO ONE in the league would want to play against. We save loads of money by dumping Gomez and only adding Konopka and Talbot.
