HBO is gonna fund a new trophy for their show to be presented at the NHL awards. Likely to be called the John Tortorella reward for which coach can cuss the most on 24/7

won't be a "classic", that's for sure

it might not even be a hockey game with these teams

TBH, I like the way the rangers look...my 3rd team, but I dont tend to follow them.

I think Del Zotto will go back to his rookie season form, and the core they had really came together last year. Richards will likely be a good addition for the first few years.

However Phillys part is just gonna be brutal, Bryz is over rated, I love Jagr but he shouldn't be there, and its questionable pronger will even play next season. I seem to hear Ill be back next game from him alot

The Philadelphia Flyers will host the New York Rangers in the Winter Classic on Jan. 2 at Citizens Bank Park, the NHL has formally announced.

The 45,000-seat ballpark is the setting for the fifth classic.

The game is not held on its traditional Jan. 1 date because it conflicted with the final week of the NFL's regular season.

The NHL will again partner with HBO Sports and the broadcast "24/7" reality franchise.

Flyers chairman Ed Snider calls it an honour for the city to host the event.

So rangers jersey has that real classic look and it gave me an idea. I would approach the NHL if i was the rangers and flyers and talk about making the jerseys actual sweaters, like in the old days. If the NHL wants they can sell both a sweater version and a jersey version, plus itd probably keep the players warmer....they just need to make them flexible.

Parent to play for Flyers alums at Winter Classic

The Philadelphia Flyers bolstered their goaltending over the summer by signing Ilya Bryzgalov. On Wednesday, they did it again by bringing in a Hall-of-Fame goaltender to play in the Winter Classic Alumni Game.

Bernie Parent, who won the Hart Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy and Stanley Cup with the Flyers in 1974 and 1975, will suit up against the Rangers' alumni on Dec. 31 at Citizens Bank Park.

Parent confirmed he would be playing with a post on his official Twitter account.

The 66-year-old Parent had been listed as an ambassador for the game. According to the Flyers, Parent will play 5-10 minutes in the exhibition.

Ron Hextall will replace Parent in the ambassador role.

The Flyers' original roster featured goaltenders Mark LaForest and Neil Little, who combined to play 40 games with the franchise. Parent's resume is a bit more impressive.

Parent played 10 seasons with the Flyers, winning 232 regular-season games and 32 of 38 playoff games as the Flyers won back-to-back Stanley Cups.

Prior to Tim Thomas accomplishing the feat last season, Parent had been the only goaltender in NHL history to win the Vezina, Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup in the same season.

In 1973-74, he won 47 games -- at the time a single-season League record -- and posted a 1.89 goals-against average. The following season, he won 44 games and posted a 2.03 GAA.

Parent was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.
