Habs Lines 2011-12

Recommended Posts

I want to keep Pax and Cole away from other teams top lines. That's why I don't mind Plekanec being away from them. If you play with Pleks you automatically have to matchup against the other team best line. With DD they've been getting second line matchups. That's smart coaching. Keep it that way moving forward. We need to find guys suited to play with Pleks because they're responsible defensively and can score without massive zone time.

How's this moving ahead this year for now until the deadline:

Bourque Plekanec Leblanc

Pacioretty Desharnais Cole

AK Eller Palushaj

Moen Gomez White

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole

Palushaj-Plekanec-Leblanc

Kostitsyn-Eller-Bourque

Moen-Gomez-White

Darche

Pretty much agree with the poster above me. I'd like to see the two kids get a chance with Pleks though. I think they're both players that are offense first, but both are adaquate defensively for being young. With the playoffs totally out of order, why not play them with our best center and see what they got? I think it'd be a pretty good line, and maybe can get Pleky going a bit more.

Don't really wanna break up the top line, but maybe take this time to try Plek with Cole and Pac, and try DD with Leblanc and Palush/Bourque. Could work as well. Would be a good way to see if DD can still produce even at a 75% rate compared to now.

So maybe try

67-14-72

60-51-71

46-81-27

32-11-53

Man, we got a lot of high numbers on this team.

Pretty much really want to evaluate Palush and Leblanc as best as possible.

Heck, maybe even try them with Gomez?

Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Cole

Let them play together and gain some chemistry. I think this line can be a true offensive juggernaut if given the chance.

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Bourque

The Max-DD tandem is just unbreakable. The love playing together and they produce offense regularly. Throw with them a man that crushes the net, and create space, in Bourque.

Leblanc-Eller-Palushaj/White

The energy line. The view of the future, they can skate, the can push, they can circle the puck and create chances. I liked what i saw last night. I'd try White there too.

Moen-Gomez-Darche

The shut down role. Its the only role left for Gomez and if he cant score he may make his body available to block shoots for 7M. They will be a decent grinder line.

Subban-Emelin

I would split Subban-Gorges so that i can have two decent defensive pairings. So Subban gets Emelin to shut down top opposition, hit and move the puck effectively.

Gorges-Diaz/Weber

I would pair Gorges with Diaz or Weber (split there games because they fault on over use) prefering my best shut down D to protect the soft minded Swiss

Kaberle-Gill

Not more than 5 minutes even strength hockey and usage in PP (Kaberle) and PK (Gill)is just about what i want from this pairing.

I know this has been mentioned somewhere before... but seriously, I wouldn't mind seeing what Scott Gomez could do between Pacioretty and Cole for at least one game.

Yeah, I think a few board members put forward this request. Unfortunately it's too late now. Or well... It's not too late to try it, but it's too late to hope for any significant change in the standings because of finding a successful line combination. I also don't think we'll see Desharnais separated from those two unless they hit a major slump.

What's the obsession of putting Gomez between Pax/Cole?!?!?!?

Someone explain to me what I've been missing besides a hard working hard luck good guy that has lost confidence and developed a complete inability to make plays that result in credible scoring chances unfortunately vs a sparkplug that works equally hard and seems to have a knack for producing points at every level he's given a chance.

Seriously, did I speak one lie?

I think people were hoping it might be an opportunity for Scott to get back on track.

With the two call-ups tonight, it seems suspicious to me that something is going on that we don't know about, be it another injury or an impending trade. White and Schultz have played 3 games in 3 days, so calling them up to play when they're not really needed seems strange. Add in that the Habs are at home for the next two games, so it's not like they need to carry an emergency player on a West Coast trip. Based on the lines from the last few games, we had

Bourque-Plekanec-Darche

Pacman-DD-Cole

Palushaj-Eller-LL

AK-Gomez-7th D

Now if there isn't any other movement/injuries (and assuming Moen still isn't back), then it means that there could be the 7th D man (?Campoli) AND another forward sitting to get two tired AHLers in. The 11th forward right now would be Palushaj, but why sit Palushaj to bring in Schultz, who has even less experience? It seems as though Cole may be playing hurt, but outside of that, I haven't see anything obvious in terms of another forward picking up an injury. So we'll see how the lines play out at practice tomorrow, but this all seems quite bizarre, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Moen dealt (with or without another piece) in the next 48 hours. And for what it's worth, my lines with the current line-up would look like this:

AK-Plekanec-LL

Pacman-DD-Cole

Bourque-Eller-Palushaj

Darche-Gomez-White

And as a follow-up to that last post, I count too many players on the active roster... 2 goalies, 8 D men (including Weber), 11 active forwards plus Moen (who was held out last night) = 22 players before tonight. Now add White and Scultz and that makes 24. So by default, Habs would have to trade or demote someone or else put Weber or Moen on IR... I may have missed it, but didn't hear either guy was officially moved there and both were supposedly expected back sooner rather than later.

*** Edit: apparently Weber was placed on IR, although I think the move was missed by the media

Price-Budaj

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole

Darche-Plekanec-Palushaj

Bourque-Eller-Leblanc

Kostitsyn-Gomez-White

ex. Schultz

Subban-Gorges

Emelin-Diaz

Kaberle-Gill

ex.Campoli

The two players coming up from Hamilton, doesn't make sense. I know White was only in a conditioning stint, but Cunneyworth could fill the spot with the 7th D (Campoli) like he often does. If no trade is pending, i suspect that we are in for a hell of a rodeo match against the Bruins

Were most likely gonna dress 7 D like we usually do. That makes no sense as Palushaj and Schultz are both in the press box. My guess is that there is a trade coming, or a injury we don't know about. Or maybe were preparing to give the bruins a taste of their own medicine with Schultz, White, Emelin, and all our new big guys(Bourque). But even then we should send down Palushaj if that is in fact the case. Either way one of Palushaj and Schultz should be in Hamilton unless there is something we don't know about.

Assuming we trade Moen, Kostitsyn, Campoli for picks at the deadline, and Markov healthy back, these are the lines, i would want to see for the rest of the season:

Price-Budaj

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole

Darche-Plekanec-Bourque

Leblanc-Eller-Palushaj

White-Gomez-Weber

Subban-Gorges

Emelin-Diaz

Markov-Kaberle

I wouldn't mind trading Kaberle also and bringing up St.Denis or Nash, if healthy, or a trade with a defensemen, that we can use for next year, coming back like AK to LAK for Scuderi+2nd. Then the 3rd pairing would be Markov-Scuderi.

Feb 28: I'd like to see:

Pax DD Cole

Bourque Plekanec Leblanc

Geoffrion Eller Palushaj

Darche White Schultz

Gorges Subban

Emelin Diaz

Kaberle Weber

Price

Budaj

I say it gives you time to see which young guys actually have a chance at a roster spot next year in appropriate roles vs which spots need a significant upgrade. Also, let's find out once and for all if Yannick Weber is a full time NHL defenceman. If not, merci et au revoir this summer.

Engqvist is playing well in Hamilton, I'd like to see him given some ice time as the 4th line center. I like White a lot better on the wing anyway where he can get in on the forecheck. Schultz isn't really a priority at this point but if you're dead set on him, scratch Darche.
