BigTed3
#Habs officially announce Geoffrion call-up and Leblanc sent down. Gauthier said Geoffrion and Palushaj are up until Moen and Darche healthy So basically the plan is to round out the season playing veteran scrubs instead of kids. Edit: I'm not talking about Moen being a scrub, but the fact that both Geoffrion and Palushaj will be sent down when Moen and Darche are back, like we can't find room for them on this roster? Agreed. I'm ok with LL going back down because he's still young, but at this point, we need to evaluate how guys like BG, AP, and Engqvist do in the NHL in roles that suit their skillset. Moen may be done for the season and the upside to playing guys like him, Darche, Noke, and Campoli, most of whom shouldn't be back next season, is quite minimal. MIASUN
Lol at Leblanc getting sent down to add Staubitz!!!! Hahahahaha omg, when is this abomination going to end?!?!?!? Staubitz or similar would have been useful 50 games ago, when we all realized the team was softer than Charmin but at this point, WHY?!?!?!?!? Man, it's like between Darche on the first line and Staubitz as a waiver claim: PG and RC are actively TRYING to lose their jobs! If the stooges can get it together, this is what should be lining up: Pacioretty Desharnais Cole Bourque Plekanec Leblanc Geoffrion Eller Palushaj Staubitz White Dumont Markov Emelin Gorges Subban Kaberle Diaz Price Budaj Keep Moen out with post-concussion symptoms all year, send Gomez to the AHL to try to reclaim his dignity and skills before next season a la Sheldon Souray, make sure Markov comes back and actually plays ten games so you can show him off/evaluate whether or not hes still a viable NHL player and you can see how bad our "complete" set of D still is. Plug Leblanc in as a second liner and see if he can stick. See if Geoffrion and Eller will be good linemates for Gionta next year. Give Palushaj an extended look. Build 4th line depth. None of this will happen. Gotta love incompetence in quitting: the Habs are like someone who jumps off a building and ends up surviving.

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole (Geoffrion)-Plekanec-White Bourque-Eller-Palushaj Nokelainen-Gomez-Staubitz Gorges-Subban Emelin-Diaz Kaberle-Campoli Markov-Weber With this line up, the games we win, for the rest of the season, are going to be counted with my right hand. Too bad we finished playing the Bruins. A Moen-White-Staubitz line would absolutely send a couple of them, at LTIR.
BigTed3
Mind-blowing how we've gone from starting the year with 3 second lines and 1 fourth line to now having 1 second line and 3 fourth lines. That was one hell of a magic trick. Honestly, look at what our line-up was projected to be at the start of the season (or some similar combination thereof): AK46-Pleks-Cammy Pacman-Gomez-Gionta Moen-Eller-Cole Darche-DD-White - Two thirds of the "first line" has been traded after having pretty miserable seasons, while the third is having one of his worst offensive campaigns in 5 years. - Two thirds of the "second line" have been a bust, in each case partly due to injury and partly due to a lack of production. - Of the guys slated to be in the lower half of the line-up on opening day, two guys now form part of the top line (which doesn't say much for the rest of the team who started above them on the depth chart), two have missed significant time with injury, and two have been streaky. On D, the story is similar, whereby the line-up that was projected in the summer never came to fruition. many saw something like Markov-Gorges Gill-Subban Spacek-Weber Emelin Well we all know Markov is still waiting to play his 1st game, allowing Diaz to be retained (Emelin was deemed to have the edge over Diaz originally because he had the out clause if he was demoted). Spacek and Gill have been traded. Weber has been a bust. Only Subban has come as advertised, while Emelin and Gorges (two 4th-5th D men in theory) have out-played expectations and saved this D corps from being any worse than it already is. In all honesty, the line-up this year projected to be as deep as we've had in many years and yet it fell monumentously short of what one could have expected by looking at it on paper. Injuries are partly to blame, but attitude, effort, luck, and coaching have to factor in there as well to explain how far we dropped down the standings. Nice post, I just hope PG or whoever knows what they're doing this summer. I have been as hard on Gomez as anyone, but even I didn't expect him to be on pace for 14 points (which it looks like he may not even hit) and playing on the fourth line. It really is amazing how much of a disaster this season turned out to be considering if looked like we improved from last year when we also had injury problems and weren't that bad. dwdemonwolf
I am not a fan of Cunneyworth's line combinations at all. Gomez is a wasted asset if you play him with grinders. You've got to let your best players be your best players, same with Plekanec. Yes he is superb defensively but we're wasting his offensive talent playing him with the likes of Darche. I know the DD line has been our one line this season but time to get the other ones going and evaluate til next year. Maybe something like: Cole-Plekanec-Bourque Desharnais-Eller-Pacioretty Leblanc-Gomez-Palushaj Moen-White-Geoffrion/Darche That'll give Plekanec two proper wingers who can play a physical game, Desharnais moves to the wing but gets two big, skilled bodies to pass (Patches and Eller), Gomez gets two youngsters with better hands than White/Darche/Moen, and we ice a proper fourth line. As for the D: Emelin-Subban Gorges-Kaberle Diaz-Weber Time to give Kaberle the chance in a top 4 role with our most solid stay-home defenseman. Diaz and Weber doesn't exactly give me any confidence but it's better to roll with Webs at this point, rather than Campoli. The 7D business needs to end immidiately, it has made everyone on D apart from Gorges and Subban (who play most shifts together anyway) look alot worse. grecohab
The way things are going, its most suitable for us to lose games, but since i hate losing, i would go with a combination like: Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole Eller-Plekanec-Bourque Moen-Gomez-Leblanc Geoffrion-White-Staubitz Subban-Gorges Weber-Emelin Kaberle-Diaz Roll all 4 lines, have a big guy on each line, play a high physical game and give Budaj some starts. Its evaluation time anyways. When Markov is back, play him limited 3rd pairing minutes at the beginning, pairing him with Emelin.

ColRouleBleu
With Engqvist sent down already tonight, I suspect Diaz will be ready to play Tuesday and we'll be back with the wonderful 7 D lineup. Or maybe it means Weber will play on Plekanec's wing? What a mess

Jacques had a few idiosyncrasies that I dislike when it came to creating lines, but what we've got right now is nothing less than a gong show. Misuse of talent everywhere outside of the DD line, and no ability to match lines in any kind of effective way.

MIASUN
You wanna get the 1st pick overall in 2013 too eh ? LOL! Like crb said : evaluate those lines from now till the end, see if they are sustainable in those roles at all. Is Leblanc actually gonna be an offensive winger, can Eller slide up when needed, BG a real 3rd liner, etc... Might as well use this disaster we call a roster currently to evaluate if players have future potential at all. Also, please play Budaj and bench Campoli. Don't burn out price and steal ice from Diaz.
