The Positive Thread 2011-12

Recommended Posts

I myself am glad the habs are losing. PG can get fired, we'll have a 1st rounder and we can rebuild the team. Only way you can fix this team is by tanking it and trading away most of our players for picks (NOT PATCHES,SUBBAN,EMELIN,PRICE)

To bring this thread back on topic,,,,,,i'm positive we'll beat the Hawks. :)

LOL.

Chicago has won 5 straight and they're first in the NHL. I won't be too sure with us beating them :)

Since that sounded negative ^ , I must say that we do have a bright future if Price stays with us!

It's a hard pill to swallow, especially in a city like Montreal, but sometimes what a team really needs is a year or two of futility to turn things around. Proper changeover in the right offices, a decent draft pick or two, and a focused rebuild around a specific area or two. If this is the path the Habs are headed on, I'm hopeful for the years to come; but a 9th-10th place finish this year would probably be the most harmful thing at this point. If we make the playoffs, well then at least "we made the playoffs", so that justifies things.

well we are due for our annual Christmas meltdown. That would get us closer to a top 5 pick :D

Just watch this year will be the first year habs do good on their christmas road trip :(. But if its the yearly loose every game road trip then yea top 5 pick for sure. Go habs all the way to the bottom!

Oops sorry, I was looking for the positive thread.

You are in the right place. Just goes to show that most of the fans are extremely bi-polar. I am not throwing in the towel for the season just yet.

Here are my positives about the Hab's current active roster:

- Cole is getting comfortable here and taking alot of pressure off Pacman

- Pacman is showing no signs that last year's Chiara induced injury was career(or production) ending

- Price is healthy and staying focused, playing well through difficult losses

- DD figuratively and literally is coming in under the radar with good numbers all-around

- Josh's rebuilt knee is taking punsihment from his usual volumnous number of blocking shots

- Emelin is improving vastly and providing a long-needed physical presence in the back-end

- Diaz is coming into his own as a shot-blocker (you can never have too much of them)

- Eller is gaining more confidence on the offensive side

- Leblanc is healthy and is demonstarting he is learning with every game in the show already

- Pleks is healthy and playing his two-way game.

- Kaberle has fit in nicely so far...

I'm inclined to agree with you and everyone else who is suggesting that we should trade our UFAs and underperforming 'stars' before the deadline this year. The unfortunate reality, however, is that unless we start absolutely tanking over the next two months, and I mean reeeeeally tanking, I just can't see it happening.

Being a hockey general manager is one of those rare jobs (politician being another) where making the right decisions can substantially increase one's chances of being fired. Because let's face it: if we miss the playoffs this year, Gauthier's time as GM is almost certainly over. Never mind that we've had a ridiculous amount of our cap dollars lost to injury again. Never mind the fact that the contracts that are bringing this team down (other than Markov's) were brought in under his predecessor. And never mind the fact that the guys who he brought in are almost to a man helping the team. No, in the court of public opinion the equation is simple: bad result = bad GM. Out you go.

So, truely, what's a guy to do? I'd love for Pierre Gauthier to be the noble white knight and to make all the hard trades that are best for the team. But then I think, would I be willing to do that if it was going to cost me my job? I'd love to say yes, but even as a fan of the team I'd honestly have to say that I'm not sure that I could. Because there's always that chance, you know? "Once Markov's back, we'll go on a tear and squeak into the playoffs". "Once everyone's healthy....", "Once so-and-so gets out of his slump...", "If we could only add this one more piece...". It's human nature to hope. And as everyone knows, "all you need to do is get into the playoffs, then everyone's got a shot", right? ;) All I would need is for a few things to start going right, then I would get to keep my job. I've gotta tell you, that'd be a tough hope to give up on.

So I think that really this all falls on the Molsons. I don't care what you announce publicly, but go to your GM in private and tell him one of two things: 1) We're behind you for next year, so go ahead and do what needs to be done to get this thing right. 2) We've decided to go in a different direction next year. Thanks very much for your service, blah blah blah blah. Either way it gives our GM a chance to do his job this year without feeling the need to save it. The absolute worst-case scenario would be for ownership to do nothing and to allow Gauthier a bunch of desperation moves, a "Gainey-bomb" if you will, on his way out.

But then, hey, look at it from the Molsons' point of view. If we make the playoffs this year they get boatloads of extra cash. And there's always the hope of the "if only"s. Why would they want to give up on a season when they lose their chance at all that extra cheddar? Can't really blame them, either.

So really, as fans, we're basically hooped. I guess the best we can do is hope. And hey, once Markov comes back and Gio and Gomez come off the injured list and Cammy heats up we're pretty much just one deadline acquisition away from making the playoffs, right? And once you make the playoffs, well, anything can happen! ;)

Habs 16-18-3 regular season record as of Dec 20, 2009. Hmmm.....

If only Tampa would quit trying to tank as well stealing the Habs chance at a top 5 pick. It's bad enough they're stealing current people from the Habs organization but future players as well?

That's not very comforting lol. We just squeezed into the playoffs that year with a pretty bad record.

I am fed up with every body being down

This is no time to wear a frown

Now is the time for positive thoughts

That's what you need to get results

life is too short for feeling low

When your down there's only one place to go

Negative thought's won't improve our play

We believe you can do it, we have to say

Giving up is not the thing to do

Give them heart, they need it too

We have to believe we have to show

They are in our hearts so GO HABS GO
