#40 Nathan Beaulieu 2012-2013

The defence in Hamilton will definitely have offence from Nathan and plenty of leadership from the coaches and St. Denis and Nash.Bulldogs could have a Banner season once again with Desjardins holding down the goalie #1 slot and plenty of great prospects both forwards and defence,it will be a treat for the fans after last year's debacle.

He's been playing well. He rushes the puck like a mad man at times, and has tended to get caught up ice once in a while, but has curtailed that a fair bit.

Surprisingly, early in the season (and still now to an extent) his strength has been defense, as opposed to putting points onthe board. He's not as physically intimidating as Tinordi (who is though?) but he's not afraid to go to corners etc, and often he'll try for a hit.

So far, he's been very impressive and the points are starting to come, as he simplifies his game (ie low hard point shot, rather than trying to dangle around a forward then wrist it).

Congrats to Nate for getting his first goal, looks like this kid is starting to come into his own and he's putting points on the board.

Nice to see after his slow start, especially on such an offensively challenged team.

Agreed, I was pretty sure at one point he'd get comfortable enough and turn it on.

Caught the odd "Q" game last season and was lucky enough to see him play on occasion. Most of the time their aired the Cataracts for some reason, was cool as well, got to see M Ellis and Bournival play. Both Ellis and Bournival were important players for the Cataracts.

I don't think Timmins gets enough credit for his work in later rounds. Ellis is turning into quite the steal. I believe we got him in the 5th or 7th round. Bournival we received him in the O'Byrne trade, so even if he doesn't make it, not that big of a loss. O'B looked good when he first joined the Avs, as the season went on though, he was being used less and less.

I hope this kid develops a shot. I keep seeing shades of Subban with his offensive upside, jumping into the play and rushing with the puck. but on the PP he just doesn't seem like a threat from up top like others who run them. He can dish it around and get the odd shot through but if he added that element to his game his point total will rise

I think he just need's more AHL seasoning.

Excited to finally have a guy who can give us some offence on the blue line for the 2nd wave of the PP. As decent have Bouillon and Gorges have been at other aspects of the game, they are awful at QBing a PP, and it's hurt us. Even if he plays sparingly outside of the PP, Beaulieu can still provide us value in that respect.

I don't understand these call-ups at all. Beaulieu has been by far the worst regular defenceman in Hamilton. He can skate with the puck but once he gets to the other teams blue line he has no idea what to do with it so he'll either pass it to the other team or just lose it along the boards. He doesn't dump it, he doesn't pass it, he just gives it away time after time. He also tends to watch plays rather than react to plays in his own end. It's been like this all season in Hamilton.

Habs seem to be giving a taste of the NHL to prospects who may be ready next year. I think the feeling is that with Diaz out and no clear will to play Kaberle, they think the best way to use that 6th D man spot is to get an idea of how NHL-ready each guy is and to give them each something to shoot for coming out of camp next year. Beaulieu clearly has the pedigree to be an NHL defenceman some day, so the Habs will give him a look now while they can.

You've been very harsh when crticizing our prospects...

I remember you said Tinordi was one of the worst defenseman in Hamilton when he got called up, yet he played great for Montreal.

This is a young team still trying to adjust. Practically three quarters of the team are AHL rookies.

I expected them to have a difficult season this year, especialy when almost the whole team needs to adjust to the pro level.

Notice how lately the team has been playing much better?

For instance:

Beaulieu has 9 points in his last 13 games, 6 points in his last 6 games.

All part of the adjustment process, the team keeps getting better as the season rolls on.

Sure, there's nothing wrong with criticism, but saying a player has been the worst defenseman on a team still trying to adjust (and he clearly has not been the worse, I could name a few who have been...) is a little harsh.

Thats my two cents.

I think people need to realize Hamilton is not the priority. It would be great to see them doing well, but right now Bergevin is evaluating the players he has and setting our top prospects up for a look into what could be, by calling them up for a look. The big lub needs to be winning first.

It is nice to see our success has allowed this to happen. It has been a long time since we have had this luxury. Therien has done an excelleny job of playing the callups and has shown a lot of faith in Boullion to take care of them. I am sure Tinordi will return to Hamilton smiling and ready to go. Hopefully Beaulieu can experience some first successes and get a little time on the PP. Who knows, maybe we'll see some again as Hamilton's season will be ending soon.
