AVERY ARRESTED AND JAILED FOR BATTERY ON A POLICE OFFICER

New York Rangers forward Sean Avery was arrested at his home early Friday morning for battery on a police officer in Hollywood Hills, California.

The Associated Press reports that Avery was jailed for seven hours before being released after he posted $20,000 bail.

According to NBC New York, Avery was having a party at his home when noise complaints from neighbours twice brought police to investigate.

On the officers' second visit, the report said that Avery allegedly argued with police and pushed an officer out of the way to go back inside his house.

The report added that Avery closed the door and refused to speak to officers. After additional police were called to the scene, Avery eventually did come out and co-operated and was arrested for battery of a police officer.

A Rangers spokesperson said that they will discuss the matter with Avery and have no further comment at this time.

The NHL is also investigating the situation, but isn't commenting at this time.

Think the Rangers might buy him out and send him out of the NHL once and for all?

Former New York Rangers forward Chris Drury announced his retirement from the NHL on Friday after 12 seasons.

The Rangers bought out the final year of their captain's contract in June after four seasons with the Rangers.

Drury played in only 24 games last season because he broke his finger twice and also underwent knee surgery. He didn't score a goal until the final day of the season.

Drury was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in 1994 and began his NHL career after the franchise was relocated to Colorado. He won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie in 1998-99 and won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in the 2000-01.

Drury had 255 goals and 615 points in 892 career games with the Colorado Avalance, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres and Rangers.

NHL.com - "Avery or Christensen: The Rangers kept 25 players on the roster, including 14 forwards, eight defensemen and three goalies. They have to cut one more player by Oct. 5 (they're allowed to keep three goalies in Europe for insurance purposes), and Tortorella said it looks like it'll either be Sean Avery or Erik Christensen."

Didnt expect one of them to be cut...
