The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenceman Fedor Tyutin to a six-year contract extension.

Appearing in 80 games last season, the 28-year-old rearguard had two goals, 20 assists and was minus-12.

Tyutin was selected in the second round, 40th overall by the New York Rangers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

The Izhevsk, Russia native made his debut with the Rangers in 2005 and produced 25 points in his rookie season.

Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson is happy with thte play of his veteran blue liner.

"Fedor has been our top defenseman since we acquired him from the New York Rangers in 2008," said Howson. "We are very pleased get him signed to this long-term deal."

Tyutin had a career-high nine goal, 34-point season in 2008-09 - his first with the Blue Jackets - after being acquired in a deal that sent Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche to New York.

Well...Nash played in the game last night ( eve of trade day ).....tells me that there was no serious close deal in the works in hand at the moment.
