EHIW
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=374721 CALGARY -- Daymond Langkow's time in Calgary is up.The Flames traded the veteran centre back to the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday for right-winger Lee Stempniak. The move gives the Flames some breathing room under the salary cap. Langkow brings a US$4.5-million cap hit for the upcoming season, while Stempniak's price tag is $1.9 million. Both players are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents next summer. "It is never easy moving a player who battles and competes such as Daymond," Flames general manager Jay Feaster said in a release. "However, because of our depth and options at centre ice, this trade presents us with an opportunity to positively impact the organization in a number of ways." The 34-year-old Langkow has 259 goals and 383 assists in 1,017 career NHL games with Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Calgary. Langkow played three seasons with the Coyotes (2001-04), posting 68 goals and 98 assists in 243 games before getting traded to Calgary. His best season was the 2006-07 campaign when he scored 33 goals and 44 assists playing on a line with Flames captain Jarome Iginla. Langkow also has 14 goals and 23 assists in 59 playoff games. "We are very pleased to welcome Daymond back to the Coyotes organization," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said in a release. "He is an intelligent, well respected, veteran centre. His competitive, two-way game is a great fit for us and we are excited to have him back in Phoenix." Langkow suffered a serious neck injury at the end of 2009-10 and played just four games with Calgary last season, registering a single assist. The 28-year-old Stempniak has 115 goals and 132 assists in 456 career games with St. Louis, Toronto and Phoenix. Phoenix acquired Stempniak from Toronto in March 2010 and re-signed him to a two-year deal last summer. "(The trade) makes us younger and provides an opportunity to evaluate a player who may factor into our plans for the future," Feater said. "It provides (Flames coach Brent Sutter) with options as Stempniak can play either wing and can be used on both the power play and the penalty kill and it creates healthy competition among the forward group for ice time." Stempniak had 19 goals and 19 assists in 82 games with the Coyotes in 2010-11. He has two assists in 11 career playoff games. Forever_Habs10
IGINLA LEAVES FIRST SKATE AT CAMP EARLY WITH BACK SPASMS http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=376033
Forever_Habs10
Flames captain Jarome Iginla skated Thursday for the first time since back spasms sent him off the ice on the first day of training camp. Iginla, 34, skated for about 20 minutes, but took no contact. The Flames remain cautious with their franchise scoring leader. "As athletes, we're excited to get out there and we want to just push, push, push," Iginla was quoted as saying on the Flames website. "Sometimes we need to be held back a little bit. "That was kind of the 20-minute limit I got today -- to go and see. Warm it up and just slowly start building that confidence again and that trust." Iginla wants to be ready for the Flames season-opener Oct. 8 at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Back spasms sent him off the ice less than 30 minutes into the first day of training camp Sept. 18.
