Nashville Predators 2011-2012

The difference between Tootoo and lucic hits is that Miller was in the crease on this one

As I said in the hits to the head thread, an intentional elbow to the head of any player, goalie or not, is a penalty/suspension no matter whether the player is in the crease or not. It's a sad excuse that Shanahan is using to defend his error in favor of the Bruins.

If the Nashville Predators plan on keeping defenceman Ryan Suter beyond this season, they may have to take their chances at re-signing him after the trade deadline. At the NHL All-Star Game's Media Day, Suter told reporters he doesn't think he will sign a new deal with the Predators before the Feb. 27 deadline.

NHL.com. Nashville has extended the contracts of general manager David Poile and his assistant Paul Fenton. Fenton is regarded as a top assistant around the league and has been mentioned as a future GM. Poile's extension runs through 2014-15 and has been the team's general manager since it entered the league in 1998. Prior to that, he was general manager for Washingon helping turn that team into a contender.

Thought you were going to say they extended Gill's contract. :P

i can see him retiring and coming back to Montreal to join the coaching staff. Several good articles written about Gill and his love for the organization and the city. Nashville's a young team and they've obviously brought him in to mentor the youngins.

Like with any player who leaves an organization, they had nice things to say about him. Like in the case of spacek, the usual stuff was said... great locker room guy, leader, will be missed, etc... But what really struck me about Gill, was how the youngins talked about him and his influence on them. Just goes to show his role on the habs went way past what we saw on the ice.

I can really see him joining the habs as an ast coach. I think he could help our habs more as a coach than a player.

Good luck Hal Gill.

Was that because I edited my post as I suspect?

PAPER WORK BEING FINALIZED THAT COULD SEE RADULOV BACK IN NHL

radulov_sm_41822.jpg

Paper work is being finalized that would see Alexander Radulov return to the NHL this season and the National Hockey League Players' Association said they would agree to bypass waivers for the Russian forward if he decides to return to the Nashville Predators.

The Predators drafted him 15th overall in 2004. After two seasons in the American Hockey League, he joined the NHL club and finished the 2006-07 campaign with 18 goals and 19 assists through 64 games. The following season, he scored 26 goals and added 32 assists in 81 games.

In 2008, the 25-year-old left to play for Salavat Yulayev in the KHL.

Radulov still owes the Predators another season on his entry-level contract. If he comes back for the remaining NHL schedule, it would satisfy the final season of his Predators' contract worth $980,000. He would then become a restricted free agent.

With 14 games remaining on their schedule, the Predators are fifth in the Western Conference with 87 points.

RADULOV'S RETURN CAUSES STIR AMONG NHL GENERAL MANAGERS

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Alex Radulov's potential return to the NHL is causing almost as much controversy as his departure.

With NHL general managers gathered for their annual March meeting, almost all of the buzz surrounded the league's decision to allow the 25-year-old Russian forward to rejoin the Nashville Predators without clearing waivers.

The decision was made in conjunction with NHL Players' Association and relayed to the GMs by deputy commissioner Bill Daly. Some weren't happy.

Radulov bolted the Predators in 2008 for the Russian-based KHL even though he had one year remaining on his entry-level contract.

If he rejoins Nashville for the stretch drive -- GM David Poile believes it's on the verge of happening -- the final year of that deal would be burned, making him a restricted free agent this summer.

The GMs also decided to move forward and recommend a new hybrid icing rule with the specific language of the rule still to be hammered out. That's expected to happen before the competition committee meets in June.

They should not allow him to play in the POs.

Rumor has it he should be arriving soon...NHL is not intervening in any way.....he can apparently do this.

The GM's....especially Detroit & St.Louis are furious.

Id like to hear the NHL's explanation regarding his eligibility. Is there anything out there??

Gotta say, I've been impressed with Poile this season. He managed to keep both Suter, Weber, and Rinne this year, and I didn't think he could. Then when they ask him to get more talent on the team, he gets a boost in Gill, talent in Kostitsyn, and a faceoff man in Gaustad. Then, to get more just natural talent, he thinks outside the box and is working on getting Radulov. Not only is Nashville scary now, but if this is enough to convince Weber and Co. to stay, they could be scary for a long time. GM of the year is my vote.

Alexander Radulov appears ready to rejoin the Nashville Predators. The 25-year-old forward has posted a Twitter picture of himself on a plane along with a message saying he's flying to Nashville via New York. The NHL has already ruled that Radulov can return to the Predators without being subjected to waivers.

Full Story.

So, does this open the door for Yakupov and Gregwhateverhisnameis, to bolt to the KHL, and play for major $$$. They could then wait it out until their entry level contract is about to expire, and it's WELCOME HOME Bro.

Radfulov set the precedent. Is it now buyer beware, when Russians are drafted?

As far as I'm concerned, the NHL botched this one,,,big time.

The idea of European-born players potentially bolting for the Russian leagues is nothing new. This changes absolutely nothing about that, really. I hardly think this isolated incident will lead to more of the same, to be frank.

As Radulov was under contract with Nashville before the season started, he isn't subject to the same rules as players in the Russian league signing to come over. Doesn't need to pass through waivers as players such as Antti Miettinen did. Although the parallel might be a tad bit of a stretch, you could liken it to a player signing a contract and taking an excused leave of absence. When he gets back and is still under contract, he doesn't have to clear waivers. The KHL also isn't a league like the AHL where the NHL has control over it, so we can't really draw a parallel to a player being called up from the minors unfortunately

Although if we do see more like this, I'm sure it will be addressed with something similar to the AHL waiver rules that work to prevent teams from stockpiling talent.

It is a very odd situation due to its uniqueness, definitely, and while it does raise some eyebrows, it's not as though this guy simply signed on a few days ago to come play with the team. Essentially, both sides are still honouring what's left of the contract in place. While rules of the contract may have been broken at some point, never was the contract itself abolished, which is probably the key decisive factor here.

So, will Yakupov or Gregorenko be happy with their entry-level contract when they could make 5 times that in the K? Would we (Habs Fans) be happy having to wait until their entry-level contract expired before they came to play for us?

This whole thing has me worried.
