This was exactly what we needed. With the cap going up the dollars are perfectly reasonable, the 4th year is the big concession by us and while it's annoying, it's the price of doing business through free agency.

Nice move though, really.

Erik ... I apologize for all the mean, nasty, derogatory and negative things I've ever said about you. Absolutely hated you when you played against the Canadiens. I know however, that I and the rest of the fans will just love you playing for us.

Absolutely; this is the type of deal it was going to take to get this done when you look at the term and dollars being thrown around today. I'm glad we targeted our needs and spent the money instead of signing a couple of tweeners. Realistically we still have plenty to resign Josh and add a piece to our bottom 6 if we want.

I'm very happy with this signing. I feel like we overpaid a tad for him, but the bottom line is that if you don't over pay a bit you end up with nobody, and we aren't good enough to end up with nobody. Sure, the 4th year kinda bites, but who knows what he'll bring for the first 3, and who knows what the team situation will be in 4 years.

Play all 82 games next year and play 'em like you have in Carolina and you'll be a fan favorite!

Oh, and 26 goals would be nice, too. ;)

A great signing. Can't wait to see him on the ice.

I doubt it'll happen, but a Kostitsyn-Eller-Cole line would be one impressive physical presence to witness. More likely to see him with Plekanec and Cammalleri, huh?

Hmmm I think you will see him with Plek's and Cammer but i'm sure Martin will go over the thought of that line and maybe try it when a line starts to slump a little to give a boost. Also DD played at the end of the year on the top line and in my opinion did not at all look out of place, although I think he is better suited as a center DD, Pleks and Cammer bring one heck of a fast line that brings match-up problems by shear speed. Only time will tell I guess. Great signing if he is healthy in my opinion big guy that can skate with are little guys.

Hello from Carolina. Congrats on landing Erik Cole, since we'll miss him.

Erik had a great second half when finally healthy. Since he broke his leg early in 09-10 he was still getting fully recovered. Once he was, and confident in his health, he was the best we've ever seen him.

You're likely aware that he can FLY so playing him with Pleks will leave everyone in their rear view mirror. He also hits like a beast, and that will be missed by Carolina.

Good luck to a fan favorite, but not against the Canes!

Dont love the term, but I can live with it. Cole is the sort of guy who will never fail to live up to a contract due to lack of effort, thats for sure.

Im very glad that Gauthier clearly saw our needs & tried to fill them.

Cole-Pleks-Cammy

Patches-Gomez-Gionta

AK-Eller-????

is looking like a potentially solid top 8 or 9 right now...

Moen, Darche, and DD can all fill in that ???? slot. Moen did it last year with good results. Darche if we want a little more scoring but still have physicality, and DD if we want to emphasize getting goals.

Yep. Going through the free agent list I thought out of all the forwards, not counting Richards, Cole was one of the few who could have a big impact for us. Now he gets to play in a real hockey town.
