Habsology2
We all known that Gill is really slow. Gill knows this also. I think that Gill we be fine when the season starts. Especially if he is not expected to play minutes that Subban, Markov, and Gorges will likely see every game. Gap control is critical for slow players. Gill will get beat this season. But Price will make the save and his defensive partner will stop the pass so Price can focus on the save. Which given how good Price played last season is very likely to be save and not a goal. It is always easier to see fault when the puck is in our net or the player is in the penalty box. Why have to deal with this at all? Why not just ice a team where EVERY D-man has some skating ability?
fansince1975
Why have to deal with this at all? Why not just ice a team where EVERY D-man has some skating ability? Well I guess that would be a question for the GM. However I know that Gill is really slow but I also know that Gill is extremely good on the penalty kill. I guess there is a trade off at each salary cap level.

A year older... a step slower maybe... and still a very questionable signing by PG IMO.

Oh I know, but the fact that he embraces the self-deprecating nick name tells you a lot about his sense of humour.

Yup, I think a lot of the guys really appreciate Gill in the room. Would be great if they could get Gomez to go along with the equally ironic nickname of "Scoresy" though. He supposedly had some pretty good foot work lol.

wheresthepuck
It's nice that Gill steps in but all it does is help to fester the mad emotions of the wreckless. It happened against Boston last year and now Campoli and Gorges got a taste. The Habs need someone to beat the snot out of these guys intead of giving them a hug. jamez74
I was pretty impressed that Gill was calling somebody out for a fight in the scrum that followed Gionta being laid out. Would like to see more of that from him.

weepingminotaur
Painful to watch at this point unless he's killing a penalty.
BeanCountingHab
Painful to watch at this point unless he's killing a penalty. Honestly, we keep wondering whether it will be Yemelin, Spacek, Diaz etc who sits when our D core is healthy, but I hope Gill isn't immune to these considerations if he's getting outperformed. His PK abilities are probably his ticket to staying in the lineup though.
dwdemonwolf
He is excellent on the PK. His reach is incredibly useful and there's practically no one in the NHL I'd take over Gill in a 5 on 3 situation. But yes, his even strength game varies from passable to brutal. His lack of any sort of speed frequently allows the opposition to skate around him, he can't even turn in time.
