I am impressed with watching this dude last season,he adds toughness/size that we can always use, with an ability to occasionally put the puck in the net. Ryan plays a gritty game, a player not hesitant to mix things up when need be.

Will be happy when the deal gets done.;)

Yep. I am just kind of surprised his hasn't accepted the qualifying offer. I'm sure he'll be taken care of shortly, though.

Would the qualifying offer still be a 2-way contract like his last one? If so that would be a big reason not to simply accept it and wait for the one way offer. Who knows, he may want to see if he can get a 2 year deal as well. I can't imagine $$$ will factor in much or at all. Then again, an extra $50-100K which means almost nothing in the grand scheme of things probably matters quite a bit to a guy like White. B)

I feel a 2-way offer to be perfectly acceptable in my opinion. He serves in a 4th liner role that can be filled by quite a few people in the league today.

In all likely hood, the Hab's tendered the QO as a technicality, and then requested he wait awhile before accepting,, in case management wants to do a multy year deal. Nothing unusual going on IMO.

Could he have filed for arbitration?

Not sure why he or his agent would do that , he doesn't have any bargaing power.

I agree, he hasn't even played a full season. He hasn't done anything significant to earn a one way deal.

Well the difference between a 1-way and 2-way is what you get paid in the AHL. A lot of times a guy like White, who isn't an established NHLer, will take a 1-way 550,000 type deal instead of a 2-way that pays say, 750,000 in the NHL and 75,000 in the AHL. That way he gets his 550,000 even if he gets sent down.

It also makes him more appealing to the NHL team because of his low cap hit, which could play a factor in deciding between him and someone on a 2-way deal with a higher NHL cap hit.

Right.

But isn't there also a (predetermined) date-a trial period so to speak-and NHL teams need to decide by then, if they're keeping the kids or sending them back to the AHL and that also determines salary for the season?

From my understanding, they can send him down past that date, but he'll continue to earn a NHL salary (regardless where he plays).

Exactly, this is what I was getting at in my post above. It's bascially what we did with Darche last year. Extra security for the player, and for a team with deep enough pockets it's pretty much win-win.

Glad to see the deal is finally done... just leaves Gorges now. White is one of my favorite players on the team for the style of play and heart he brings. Would love to see some other guys show some of the same commitment to hard play White does.
