ColRouleBleu
#31 Carey Price Bio Stats Video Draft Class Archive 2010-2011 QUOTE LIBRARY "When you earn the respect of your teammates they give you the kind of support that I got from them this year." - Carey Price - Globe and Mail - Apr. 28, 2011 From the 2010-2011 thread: "Mental outlook is such an important part of being a goalie," says Price in the measured cadence inherited from his father. "My dad always told me to have a short memory, whether things are going good or bad. Play in the moment. If one goes in, forget about it and get ready for the next one." - ESPN.com

jeff33
it was a rollercoaster, and i was among the doubters plenty of times. the dust has settled. we have one of the best goalies in the league, period. this is exciting because you can never overestimate how important great goaltending is. its a constant x factor, and it wins cups. carey allows us to play the system we do, and it puts us on the level of otherwise much better teams pick up right where you left off mr. price, last season was a revelation

fansince1975
The defensive group should be better this season. Looking forward to a huge season from Carey Price. I think that Price will start 72+ games this season.

beaubie
The defensive group should be better this season. Looking forward to a huge season from Carey Price. I think that Price will start 72+ games this season. The idea I think they are going with is that he will start less than that. He played in 72 and started 70. And even though he was able to keep his play relatively consistent throughout those games, I think Budaj will help in giving Carey some rest. And to add, as FH mentioned above, he could handle it - it's not that it was a bad thing becuase he did play so well it's just that, I'm guessing in the long run, it would be beneficial. I would rather JM go with Price as much as possible. Budaj is not a great goalie. Just good. Brodeur, Miller, Lundquist, and Kipper all play 70+ games every season. Doesn't seem to hurt them. I think that Price was amazingly good throughout the season. The heavy work load did not seem to hurt his play IMHO. I really hope that PG extends the Price and Subban contracts this week. This would then "allow" Montreal to go after someone with a huge offer sheet. I would personally trade four first round picks for Stamkos or Doughty. PG would then just need to free up some cap space by moving Gomez or another high priced player.

Sometimes, I thik that's one of the main factors in managing playing time but also the increase risk to injury. And I am in no way saying that those oalies you mentioned have been hindered by their playing time but I can think of times all last season when Brodeur, Miller and Kiprusoff were all either having bad stretches or had injuries. And of course that's only one season but I'm just saying that it has taken some toll. And that's clearly not to say that that is what will happen to Price or every goalie for that matter but Budaj will certainly be playing more games next season than Auld did last. maddienmike
Just read the schedule for the world juniors on NHL,they said about players who had done well and progressed from there to the NHL,no mention of Jesus Price,he won gold for Canada had the most wins of any goalie last season, had 20 more stars than any other player and not a word, what the hell do you do to get noticed in this league.Sometimes I get really fed up with the NHL they ignore us and we are paying the bills for them and half the other teams, somebody shoot the poison dwarf please GO CAREY GO

FirstStar
I'd prefer they focus on the signings for this year first... Me too, still have a few holes and a few guys to resign. We can worry about Price once we're in Scott's final year.
roy_133
Me too, still have a few holes and a few guys to resign. We can worry about Price once we're in Scott's final year. He'll have already been a UFA if we just go year to year until Scott's final year. I don't expect much if any movement during the season on him, we control his rights so we'll probably just go into the summer, negotiate then and if a long term deal isn't in the cards go to arbitration. If it was up to me, I'd lock him up next summer and sign our other key RFA, Subban to a 2 year deal (like Carey got for his 2nd contract) taking him to the year Gomez, Cammalleri and Gionta all expire. Subban would still be an RFA then so we'd still control his rights and 2 years instead of a LONG term deal buys us time before he strikes it rich while we buy up UFA years. I wasn't suggesting we sign him to one year contracts... For some reason I was thinking his contract was up when Gomez would be in the final years of his contract(when he's getting much less). Gomez's contract goes down after this season, which means we have a lil more money to play with. Thankfully for us, Gomez's contract starts to go down next season. Right in time to resign Carey and BGL's buy out will be off the books also(think this is the last year of his buyout). Things are starting to look up. Well Gomez's contract goes down in actual dollars but the cap hit is still 7.3 and with all the money the Molson's and the organization has I don't think actual dollars is much of a concern, it's more of a cap related concern. Unless you're suggesting Gomez's actual salary coming down makes him easier to trade, which it does. As of right now though we already have Spacek, Kostitsyn, Gill, Moen becoming UFA's and we have cap space left as of right now for this year which we very well may use on a 1 year solution/band aid, so the money will be there. In terms of RFA's next summer we have Price, Subban, Eller and Yemelin but we have cap flexibility. Subban, Eller and Yemelin would all be going on their 2nd contract so unless we buy them up long term it won't be anything excessive. Price we will likely want to lock up long term IMO and the cap hit won't be small but he's already making some money (2.75), so it's not like he'll be going from an 800,000 cap hit to 6 million. Ideally we do 5-8 years with Carey if he repeats his performance and double his salary to around 5.5. He may be able to command a little more, especially if the cap jumps again but we'll see. I think Price should be locked up 5-6 years only if he repeats his performance. I have full confidence however that Carey will stay on top and repeat in less action. He likely will play in less games with Budaj backing him up. Not significantly less, I say he plays around 55-62 games. Next offseason I say we lock up price for 5-6 years like I said, and do our best to keep his cap hit between 4.5-5.5 mil per season. I think that could end up to be a bargain for us, if Price becomes a vezina caliber goal tender, that could be a sweet deal...even better if he leads us to a Stanley Cup Victory.
