Guest
Mark Mitera Position: Defense Age: 23 DOB: 1987/10/22 POB: Royal Oak, MI Height: 6-4 Weight: 214lbs Shoots: L NHL Seasons: 0 Drafted by Anaheim in 2006 (1/19). Acquired in a trade for Mathieu Carle The Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks have given a pair of young blue-liners a change of scenery. The Habs acquired defenceman Mark Mitera from the Ducks in exchange for their own blue-liner Mathieu Carle. Mitera scored six goals and 16 assists in 71 games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch last season. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound defender was originally drafted by Anaheim in the first round, 19th overall, at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Carle suited up for three games with the Canadiens in 2009-10, finishing with a plus-1 and four penalty minutes. Originally selected 53rd overall by the Canadiens in 2006, he has played 222 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs, picking up 30 goals and 67 assists in that span. jennifer_rocket
I'm assuming, like Carle, Mitera has never managed to crack the lineup for Anaheim. Probably going to get returned to the Bulldogs after training camp.

Probably going to get returned to the Bulldogs after training camp. According to Corey Pronman of Puck Prospectus he had a knee injury hamper his development and his mobility just started coming back this past season. Also, Corey Pronman Personally Im not sure why the Ducks did that deal. Carle has all the looks of a career AHLer, while Mitera has NHL prospects. http://twitter.com/#!/coreypronman

Habs_Hockey_Nutz
Habs gain some size but again add another leftie... go figure? Carle just had his best year with the Bulldogs too, which may have raised his value. I don't quite get this move.

Carle would have. I believe that would make a difference.

hatethosebruins
Good point... but still? I guess they simply could not see Carle in their plans for this season. Possibly because he sounds more like an offensively minded D-man IMO. We have that in Weber, Diaz, Markov and Subban (though they do pretty well in their own zone). I guess they wanted to get more physical on the back end.
khadgar
Good point... but still? I guess they simply could not see Carle in their plans for this season. He wasn't going to make the Habs this year. So if we had to bring him up anybody could have claimed him for nothing. We traded him for an asset that has two years before he has to clear waivers. And basically has the same upside. I think this is a good trade. If Carle move's on and has a huge career then I will eat my words. But I can't see that happening. (don't get me wrong) it is not a bad trade for the Habs oganization and does make good business sense buyng more time on a prospect. Better to get something of promise than nothing at all should Carle have been scooped up or walked eventually. Unfortunate that we lose a right-hand prospect... but then again the Habs did add some (Diaz for example). Has to be shrewd and with a purpose perhaps in mind further ahead. I have confidence PG was aware that Mitera is a lefty when he made this move, and has a plan on what to do on defense.
MIASUN
Mitera doesn't have to pass through waivers this year to be brought up or down. Carle would have. I believe that would make a difference. Good point! That alone makes it a shrewd move. I just brought up this topic in the Carle thread like a week ago, he was going to be number 9 on the depth chart, so clearly an injury would have to occur for him to get called up. When they tried he would have been claimed. This is a smart move by PG. A stay-at-home 6'3 defenseman with mobility is NEVER a bad thing to acquire especially when you're replacing a commodity that had no long term value for you. jennifer_rocket
What's up with this guy? I see he went 19th overall in the 2006 entry draft. Is he a candidate to actually make the team in the future?

jennifer_rocket
I am assuming Mark will not be back with the Montreal organization next season. In 76 games last season he managed 13 points and -21. If he's going to be a "shutdown" defender he's going to have to do a lot better than finishing -21. -15 the year before with Syracuse. Did anyone watch him in Hamilton last year?
