I think we are already discussing the bonehead in the Ranger team thread.

This guy is such complete garbage. How much does he have to do to not get another offer?

I commended his public stand on equal rights, but that doesn't excuse anything. From the start of his career to (what is hopefully) the finish, he's done nothing but drag himself, his teams, and the league in general down with his pointless antics.

I see that now.

I'm sure he'll give us an excuse to expand on other discussions regarding his stupidity down the road. It's an individual players forum so i'll leave it.

WOULD YOU ADD SEAN AVERY TO YOUR TEAM?

Sean Avery is considered to be among the premier motor mouths in the National Hockey League and is often considered the most hated player in the league. He may not have the opportunity to lay claim to that title much longer.

The often-controversial forward was placed on waivers by the New York Rangers on Tuesday and with a cap hit of almost $4 million, the possibility of going unclaimed and playing out the season in the minors seems likely.

But there could be a club looking for a veteran agitator - someone who can shake things up on the ice. Many players across the league will tell you that Avery is the best at doing that, but is his price tag too steep for an agitator? More so, is the price you pay much more than the dollar amount on his paycheque?

Controversy has been no stranger to the 31-year-old, who delights in doing and saying anything to get under the skin of his opponents. In his time with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars and Rangers, he developed a knack of riling people into an art form as opponents often found themselves trying to get back at him and drawing a penalty.

In 2008, he was accused of unleashing a torrent of obscenities at a fan who was heckling him in the penalty box. A complaint was filed with the NHL, but no action was taken.

He got himself in hot water with the league commissioner Gary Bettman later that year when he was suspended for using a crude term about his former girlfriends dating other hockey players.

But his most infamous moment happened in a playoff game against the New Jersey Devils in the 2008 playoffs, when he stood in front of goaltender Martin Brodeur and waved his hand and stick in the goalie's face to block his view. The NHL moved the next day to forbid the activity with the so-called 'Avery Rule.'

Despite his uber-pest image, Avery has found ways to put the puck in the net - potting 87 goals and 244 points in 565 NHL games. He also collected 1,512 penalty minutes in that time. But last season, Avery scored three goals and added 21 assists for 24 points in 76 games.

IMO, as a die-hard hockey fan living in the southern US, the NHL needs Sean Avery. He is the in the top 5 of most recognizable players in the NHL for Americans. I think a team like the Florida Panthers or any team that struggles to get publicity or at the gate like the Coyotes, Islanders, Hurricanes, Avalanche or Stars should really consider adding him to their team.

In the case of the NHL, with the NBA being locked out, ANY press is good press and Sean Avery provides PLENTY of material. He's also a pretty capable hockey player if you remove the off-ice nonsense. To me, the NHL needs Sean Avery and his brash behavior from a business standpoint. I really dislike him but I'm savvy enough to know he's great for the business of Hockey, especially in struggling markets, just keep him off my Habs.

Avery has cleared waivers and will be in the AHL, according to NHL.com. He may also end up in Europe. Does anyone think he'll back in the NHL?

Europe wouldnt be far enough away in my books.
