uncivilengineer
Not to make a political debate, but a spot to pay respects to Jack Layton who lost his battle with cancer this morning. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2011/08/22/layton-obituary.html

uncivilengineer
Not sure exactly how it works, I know his riding will need a bi-election but for the party leadership I think they have an internal vote on that.
Flying_Lion
Nice touch, uncivil. I'm pretty sure the interim leader will stay in the position until a leadership convention, probably in the new year, can be held. Anyone with any class wouldn't turn this into a debate. Jack's appeal transcended party politics, even if his values didn't. He was a model of integrity and optimism, something sadly lacking - and now moreso - Canada's political scene for quite a while. He will be missed and the country is poorer for his passing.

jedimaas
I'm pretty sure the interim leader will stay in the position until a leadership convention, probably in the new year, can be held. Bingo. The interim leader (Nycole Turmel) is pretty much guaranteed to be short-term leader until they reach a vote - after all, Layton not only asked her to be interim leader, he also requests that she stay in that position until the new leadership election in the new year. Jack's appeal transcended party politics, even if his values didn't. He was a model of integrity and optimism, something sadly lacking - and now moreso - Canada's political scene for quite a while. He will be missed and the country is poorer for his passing. Agreed & well said. I didnt always agree with his ideas or approach, but I think his passion & sincerity were infectious and heartfelt. My thoughts are with his family.

Flying_Lion
The second last thing I want to do with this post is bump it to where people might be tired of the subject. The actual last thing I want to do is self-promote. I just felt the need to do this.
Noob616
I disagreed with a lot of Jack's politics, but this is just awful. He really seemed like a sweet, genuine, and caring man, a great loss for all Canadians. R.I.P. Jack
