Just woke up and found out who we took. WOOT!!!!!!!

We pick again with our 51st soon.

TBHF123 must be turning cartwheels.

I was doing the same move I did when we took Gally. Except not as excited lol.

We took Dalton Thrower.

Thrower is a defensemen. Our first defensemen drafted.

Gonna do some research about Collberg and Thrower. Collberg is a steal for sure, he was thought to be drafted in the 20ish range.

2nd round over.

I wouldn't mind drafting Dalton Thrower with our next pick.

We drafted him 51st overall. ;)

We took Tim Bozon with the 64th overall pick.

So, for anyone who knows about these things, did our weekend turn out good?

Amazing, IMO. Collberg was, according to most people, the 3rd best European prospect in the draft, after Forsberg and Teravainen, and was expected to be drafted in the 15-20 range, so he was a big steal. Hudon also seems to be a steal, 66 points in 59 games in the WHL. Dalton Thrower is a nice defensemen who some people thought would go in the 1st round.

Dalton Thrower (Defense)

Height: 5′ 11″ Weight: 189 Shoots: Right

Team: Saskatoon Blades (WHL)

Country: Canada

NHL Central Scouting ranking: No. 26 skater in North America

What kind of player is he?

If you’re looking for a blue-liner with a mix of offense and nastiness, then the guy with the killer name in Dalton Thrower could be your choice. Thrower is a two-way defenseman who put up some great numbers for Saskatoon this season with 18 goals, 36 assists, and 104 penalty minutes. He’s been compared to Kevin Bieksa, and Thrower even says Bieksa is his favorite player.

Quotable

“He’s a guy who definitely has the ability to move the puck and make the right offensive play. But it’s his willingness to battle and compete and do things that winners do – block shots, get in the way, do whatever it takes, fight if he has to and stand up for his teammates.” – Mark Seidel, chief scout North American Central Scouting.

After my thoughts of the 1st round, here is my thoughts on the 2nd:

Sebastian Collberg is a very good pick. Skilled winger, undersized, but with great hands and skating ability. Bob McKenzie and Button had him ranked at 27th, while ISS and THN ranked him 13th and 14th respectively. We took him 33rd, so that has to be good right? Potential top line winger, we can safely trust the Swede.

Dalton Thrower to be honest was unknown to me. After research, although quite small he plays with heart and put up some very decent numbers at the WHL, for a defensemen.(66GP/18G/54PTS). A true competitor he can be gritty, another good pick because we picked him 51st overall, but was projected by McKenzie 39th, by ISS 28th, and THN 29th. Only Button had him ranked 52nd.

Tim Bozon was in my wish list, with Collberg. Left winger with good size, a point per game player at thw WHL with Kamloops (71GP/36G/71PTS). He fills a need at wing and again a decent pick, because he should have been gone at the 2nd round, and we picked him 64th overall. Projected to go 50th by McKenzie, 40th by ISS, and 43th by THN

Brady Vail is to me the steal of the draft. We picked him 94th overall (4th round) and many specialists had him gone at the 2nd round. Button had him 40th, McKenzie 60th, ISS 48th and THN 58th. Why he slipped so much is beyond me but he is a great pick. Maybe we will see a 4th rounder in MTL being an NHL roster player, one day. Extremely reliable two way left winger, good size, good scoring ability, good work ethic, whats more to ask of the 94th pick.

Charles Houdon is a francophone winger that is tearing up the QMJHL with Chicoutimi (2010 63GP/60PTS, 2011 57GP/66PTS). Not much size but obviously alot of talent, lets see how things can go for him. With this pick i might consider drafting centerman Seth Griffith, who went to Boston 10 picks later or Quebec native goalie Francois Tremblay.

Erik Nystrom is another left winger (Timmins habbit?) quite small, who played in Sweden, and put up some decent numbers too. The jury is up for him too, but he comes with a hard working spirit, as it seems. With the 154th pick i would also consider Quebec goalie Francois Brassard, forward Tomas Hyka (who i thought was a good pick for the 3rd-4th round) or forward Anton Zlobin. Hyka or Zlobin would have been great additions, i think.

Overall it has been a very good draft for us, we gained an elite player in Galtsenuyk, another potential 1st rounder in Collberg, three players that were ranked at the 2nd round in Thrower, Bozon and Vail, a franco in Houdon and Nystrom. Congradulations to Mr.Timmins, Mr. Bergevin and the rest of members of the scouting department. You all made us happy, and looking twards a brighter future, for our franchise...
