hatethosebruins
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=379721 Georges Laraque has claimed that several of the NHLs enforcers and top players often use performance enhancing drugs in order to maximize their efforts on the ice. Thoughts?
Forever_Habs10
Thoughts? Here we go again. NHL says steroid use isn't a problem among hockey players NHL must get serious about steroids
Lizardking89
It's not surprising to be honest. There''s steroid problems in every sport it seems even golf.
FirstStar
It's not surprising to be honest. There''s steroid problems in every sport it seems even golf. Exactly... Bettman turning a blind eye again. Just deny and smile, hopefully they'll believe us.
Lizardking89
Exactly... Bettman turning a blind eye again. Just deny and smile, hopefully they'll believe us. Yeah it worked out real well for Selig who was so desperate for fans to come back after the strike in 94 that he turned a blind eye long enough for a number of sacred records to be broken. Bettman is so desperate for fans in the US that the issue of steroids is overlooked and ignored.

Innis_Mor
I might have time to listen to him if he actually had something to lose (i.e., was still an NHL roster player), and nothing to gain (i.e., not just having released a book in stores). BGL remains as useless and irrelevant as he was throughout his Canadiens career.

That doesn't make much sense...All he's doing is drawing attention to something the rest of the hockey media is ignoring. I would absolutely believe that a lot of players in the NHL are using steroids, to think otherwise is delusional.

The concept that, with millions of dollars on the line (not to mention fame) hockey players are too noble to take steroids if there's a weak system in place that they can easily beat is naive. Nine1One
I doubt a ton use it. I would think it would be more of the lower players idk. I just can't imagine a player like ovie, stamkos, crosby, st. louis or somethign use them. Chara yes

RSD
I'm just saying...Look at the recovery time of some guys from devastating injuries...There's definitely use in the NHL...
habs_93
Steroid use has gotten so prevalent that they run public service announcements about it aimed at middle and high school-aged children. So I have absolutely no doubt performance enhancing drugs are being used in the NHL. People still get caught in the MLB, and they have one of the most stringent monitoring programs in all of professional sport.
CATATAFISH
I don't have a hard time believing some players would want to cheat and get ahead but if it's no secret that NHL players are using than that means the NHL is full of liars. Coaches, GMs, trainers, doctors, players, families. That's a lot of lying. Not a very good motto for roll models. Still don't know if I can believe that Big George is the only honest person in the NHL.

I would absolutely believe that a lot of players in the NHL are using steroids, to think otherwise is delusional. I don't think you understood what I was saying. The optics are: BGL didn't speak out before now; he's speaking out now when he has a book to sell and make money from; and BGL didn't speak out before now; it may have affected his marketability (new contracts) and his 'friends' (in the dressing room and across the league), while he was at work in the NHL I don't have any problem with BGL 'coming out' with the issue. I have a problem with his timing -- very self-serving, and not all that 'brave'. Do I make sense to you now? (See my point, whether you agree with me or not?) BGL remains as useless and irrelevant as he was throughout his Canadiens career. These were my thoughts exactly. Laraque seems to be doing anything he can to keep his name in the press these days. I don't doubt that there are some issues, but I just find it tiresome that we're hearing it from Big Georges.
