BigTed3
Geoff Molson has come out recently showing public support for PG and JM. But what would you do in his shoes? A topic of great debate around the forum all season, it's time to tally up the votes... would you let PG and JM go or would you give them a chance to right the ship, given all the injuries we've had? js2
I selected fire both but not right now as I'd prefer the Habs to take their time in finding replacements. But this time around I would hope that they select the best possible candidates and not just focus on what language they speak.
jennifer_rocket
I voted "Stay the course." I would like to see what Gauthier can do this summer as far as bettering the team goes, and I would like to see what Martin could do if we had players who contribute to the level they're expected to when getting paid as much as they do. I see no reason for an immediate change. Any new coach or G.M. that comes in right now isn't going to improve the season. We might as well let it play out however it will, and look forward to the draft.
beaubie
Definitely "stay the course" for me. I don't think making crazy changes (yes, I'm calling them crazy) are going to change the product on the ice. I'm not denying that it would have absolutely no effect at all but I personally believe that the way things are going are not necessarily a product of Gauthier or JM. That'll be contested - for Martin more than PG. Our team is in tough and I'd like to give PG time to try and fix that. As for Martin, IMO, getting a new coach is not going to change the players. The players have to change the players. Hiring a new guy isn't going to make Markov come back any faster. It's not going to make Cammalleri put more effort into his game. Sure, the new guy could do things differently with lines and practice and playing certain players and benching others but I generally feel that we'd have the same outcomes. Not to my own discredit but I could be in denial and just really hate change.
31Careyprice
Start looking for a new GM and fire Pierre and his advisor once we fail to make the playoffs.
Guest habs1952
Stay the course. PG needs some time to fix things. JM needs to light a fire under some of the players since their salaries aren't incentive enough. Either that or let them ride the pine for a while. Hell, just call them out and wait for the dust to settle.
hatethosebruins
I voted for Martin. I dont think he costs us every game but I think there are times when he could be ALOT better. Its also his track record, he had highly offensive teams in ottawa that also played defense, they didnt win anything. Do I want him fired right now? NO. But in the off-season when we see more coaches around, i wouldnt be against the idea.
Guest
I'm going with stay the course until we're somewhat healthy again. If things are still going south by then,,,,,,clean house.
Guest Regis2
Start looking for a new GM and fire Pierre and his advisor once we fail to make the playoffs. Yup Unfortunately the next GM would have to be bi lingual which means we wouldn't be getting " the best person available "
BigTed3
36 hours left to vote... have people settled down on the JM/PG issue now that we've won two games and Kaberle has played well? Or is change still needed in the big picture of things?
powerplay2009
I think that Gauthier can still do good for this team in the offseason, but I feel that JM isn't the right guy for the job. He hasn't necessarily underperformed, but I feel that we could/would be doing far better with a different coach. Right now, I would be interested in somebody like Carlyle or Dave Cameron. Waiting until the offseason could work out better, but I don't know what's going to happen between now and then, the league's crazy right now

Its also his track record, he had highly offensive teams in ottawa that also played defense, they didnt win anything. Do I want him fired right now? NO. But in the off-season when we see more coaches around, i wouldnt be against the idea. They were quite frequently at, or near, the top of the league in goals for so they weren't playing overly defensive. They had a goalie prone to choking away series though. Anyway, not winning a Cup is IMO a pretty silly critique, same with Luongo. Playoffs are a crap shoot, best of 7 involves a ton of luck. I'll take sustained success over full seasons and take my chances in the playoffs. Best you can do. Either way, I'm not sure. It's an interesting call. I stay the course for now but patience has to be getting thinner and thinner. Gauthier and Martin are plagued by the bad contracts Gainey saddled us with. TBH, I think the coaching job has been strong, we're right in the playoff hunt with an AWFUL D, our highest paid player having contributed 4 points and our 3rd highest paid player not having played a single game. That's not even factoring the other things that have gone wrong that were out of the coaching staff's control. The PK has been excellent, 5 on 5 has been a positive. The only thing killing us is the PP and although Martin doesn't run the PP, I think we'd all agree there's been a lack of horses, especially when it comes to the point. BigTed3
So fans here didn't think JM should be fired, but apparently that didn't help him much. Thanks to everyone for voting. New poll will be up after the holidays.
