ColRouleBleu
There's no way Subban gets taken off the PP. If Markov ever comes back you probably see waves of Markov-Kaberle and Subban-Campoli This. There's no way Diaz stays in the lineup when Markie returns. Heck, there wont be any room for Emelin either. Then again, if Kaberle performs, I dont see Campoli staying for very long, Nick Lidstrom he aint. BigTed3
This. There's no way Diaz stays in the lineup when Markie returns. Heck, there wont be any room for Emelin either. Then again, if Kaberle performs, I dont see Campoli staying for very long, Nick Lidstrom he aint. It becomes tricky. If Markov does come back, you have him, Kaberle, and Campoli, all three of whom are left-handed puck-moving D men. Subban and Gorges aren't going to sit with any regularity, Gill is a favorite of JM's, and Emelin has earned a spot in the line-up (I think he's been one of our top 2 performing D men in the last 10-15 games). Then add Diaz and maybe Weber and you have 9 guys, which is way too much. Already at 8, it's a bit crowded. The Habs can send Diaz down to the AHL without waivers, but otherwise, they're going to need to move someone. Maybe that's Campoli, maybe it's Gill, maybe Weber as well... but yeah, with Kaberle's arrival, you really have to wonder if he and Campoli have too similar a role to keep both. ColRouleBleu
Hmm... I just realized that this is another "Habs killer" that will now be wearing our jersey. It cant be all bad After Cole and Kaberle, who's next? Brooks Laich? RJ Umberger?

We already knew Markov would not be back until at least February, so that's not a surprise. It was 6-8 weeks + game conditioning.
hatethosebruins
So if we run into the problem of over crowded Defense, id rather we move Campoli, and then rotate diaz and emelin in. We lose gill at the end of the year and campoli, waive weber if you cant move him then we have next year Markov-Subban Kaberle-Gorges Diaz-Emelin Not bad if you ask me, and if Markov is Markov we can find someone else to replace him... Because he was supposed to only miss a few games in October. They keep holding back information from us. At this point the Markov saga isn't funny, it's annoying. We had to go and take a risk on Kaberle because of Markov.

But I've reached a point where I was frustrated for so long, that I've now chosen to suspend any belief relating to Markov updates and just poke fun at the absurdity of the situation. Until he steps back onto the ice and plays without getting hurt I'm not factoring him into the teams lineup, this year or the next.

Newt_mtl
Way to make a good first impression, Tomas! I admit I was a little surprised at all the negative backlash from this trade. Sure, Kaberle wasn't himself recently but I firmly believe he can get back on track - and even if he doesn't, he's still an upgrade over Jaro (love the guy but he won't get any younger). wmarcello
Very strong first game from #22. Two smart, skilled assists that not just any player could pull off. His contributions today were probably the difference between 2 points and 1 or 0. I wonder how many of those 7 OT losses this year could have been saved by this kind of effort...? roy_133
We saw the very good (his puck play) and his weakness (he can blow coverage). He's not a pure PP guy because he can handle the puck so well, but he definitely needs to be surrounded by a good shutdown type. Anyway, added something we haven't seen since Markov and if he keeps it up, we'll be thrilled with the deal. Very happy to see him perform. S-Bah
Watching the looks on Kaberle's face after the goals today reminded me of when Frank Mahovlich joined the Habs. His first game playing on Beliveau's line,he was happy and smiling and laughing on the ice and bench. For anybody that remembered Frank's career,he never showed much happiness until he played in Montreal,it rekindled his love for the game and it showed in his play.It seems to be the same for Kaberle,Good luck Tomas and enjoy playing for a team where your talent will be appreciated. Yep, his game wasn't mistake-free at all, but his production was the difference between a regulation win for us and a loss either in regulation or in OT. Alastair_LighT
Why is Kaberle rated as a +/- 0 in this game? I do not understand. He had 2 points, and allowed 1. He should be a +1 shouldn't he?

He should be a +1 shouldn't he? PP goals aren't counted for your +/- (neither is short handed goals against). The 2nd (Cole) goal was just after the PP expired so he was awarded a +1 and the goal against was even strength so he was awarded a -1.

ChiLla
Nice debut. I still don't understand why everybody is freaking out about this trade, our team is much better with him in the lineup instead of Weber. He's definitely not a number 1/2 guy but you're just not going to get that kind of player for Jaro Spacek straight up.
weepingminotaur
He's definitely not a number 1/2 guy but you're just not going to get that kind of player for Jaro Spacek straight up. No kidding. In fact, were it not for Kaberle's struggles this season, we wouldn't even have been able to acquire a top-four defenseman in exchange for just Spacek. If Kaberle plays like a top-four guy, and there's no reason to think he can't be that player, given his history, then this is not only a good acquisition for us in and of itself, but a steal in terms of what we gave up -- a 37-year-old third-pairing d-man in the final year of his contract. Honestly, I feel like sometimes fans think that if we aren't getting Sidney Crosby in exchange for Travis Moen and a 7th-round pick, it's a terrible trade. To get, you have to give. In this instance, we didn't even have to give much, yet so many are screaming blue murder.
