hatethosebruins
I find it interesting that Kaberle and Markov both expire when gomez gionta and cammalleri do, maybe this offseason pierre will sign a few guys to 2 year contracts, and once we lose Cammy Kaberle Gionta Gomez and Markov he will begin a rebuild. ColRouleBleu
I wonder. Who has a greater PPG ratio in their career? Andrei Markov or Tomas Kaberle? They are super close! So, when Andrei gets healthy, and when Tomas gets used to the team... We could have two very formidable offensive D. I'm excited to see how this pans out. I just hope Markov can get back and we can see these two guys running their own powerplay units.
Nine1One
It's really close, but I think we all know who is better in their own zone.

Noob616
I guess I just never understood the negativity. We gave up Spacek to get him. Jaroslav Spacek. Nothing against Spacho Man, but he's 37, and he's likely done in the NHL after this season anyway. Even if Kaberle regresses in the last year of his contract, we definitely can bury him. fansince1975
I don't like the contract. But far from the worst contract this team has. If Kaberle can help our PP become top 10 in the 2nd half of the season then I believe our team will win 5 to 8 more games this season which should equal the playoffs. roy_133
True but usually better, he plays on the PK, not sure Kaberle does. The Markov we last saw consistently was better definitely better than Kaberle defensively. Better hockey sense, better with his stick and just as good at making an outlet pass. The key words here are "The Markov we last saw consistently" , personally, I feel we haven't seen Markov, for 10-20-30 games. I don't feel he will be the "old" Markov. I am giving up on him. I don't feel he will be the "old" Markov. I am giving up on him. Well who knows, never mind the injury issues but the fact is he's about to turn 33 and DMen do start to regress quite often around his age. It's very possible he's not quite as good as he was when he went down. I have a hard time believing that if he's healthy enough to play he won't still be VERY good given his hockey sense and vision but if the question is, will he be as good as he was in 09-10 when we last saw him consistently? Who knows, it's probably more likely that he's not quite that good. I expect that both him and Kaberle would play 1st PP unit, since it would be a waste of an asset to have either on unit 2 IMO and I think we'll see Markov in a bit more of a trigger role given that his shot is far and away better than Kaberle's. I think the best part about all this is that now we're going to win the cup this year for sure. With Markov and Kaberle generating massive offense for us, and the best goalie in the league (bar possibly Tim Thomas), we cannot lose! In the playoffs Price is going to allow 0-2 goals pretty much most nights, and we'll score 2-4. It's all over the for the other 29 teams, they'd be as well to pack their bags and head to the golf courses already. This is the year my friends! The cup is ours! wmarcello
Oh Jack Todd, how you have a columnist job will never make sense to me. A teaser from his last column on Kaberle (the bold part is especially good for a laugh): When we heard about the Tomas Kaberle deal last week, we wanted to know two things: What was Pierre Gauthier smoking when he pulled the trigger on this one – and where can we get some? Because from where we sit, it looks as though Gauthier just dealt a truckload of sandpaper (in the person of Jaroslav Spacek) in return for a load of soft ice cream – which happens to come with a $12- million price tag. Seriously. Patrice Brisebois is still hanging around town and the Breezer could do all the things Kaberle does – for less. The lazy, half-hearted poke-check. The tape-to-tape pass to a guy in the wrong jersey. The cross-check to the back of an opposing power forward, 10 seconds after he just scored in your net. The corkscrew imitation as a speedy forward breezes by. Brisebois could still give the Habs everything Kaberle can give – and he can do interviews for the voracious French media to boot. weepingminotaur
Todd is an unmitigated moron, and frankly, the way the media has responded to the Kaberle trade resembles an echo chamber populated by a bunch of teenagers with Tourette's syndrome. jedimaas
Wow. My favorite parts: Gauthier just dealt a truckload of sandpaper (in the person of Jaroslav Spacek) in return for a load of soft ice cream Wait, Spacek was sandpaper? I mean I liked the guy but he was no Craig Ludwig or Lyle Odelin back there. Seriously. Patrice Brisebois is still hanging around town and the Breezer could do all the things Kaberle does – for less. He realizes that in 18 NHL seasons, Brisebois had 0 All star appearances (Kaberle was at 4). Brisebois' best offensive season ever was 38 points. Kaberle has bested that total NINE times (actually 11 if you prorate a few of his years) and by a large margin (up to 67 points) in most cases. Kaberle was also a far better 2 way defensman than Breezer ever was. Only real question at this point is whether or not Kaberle can regain his positional (defensive) game or not. Im willing to wait and see (not call this trade a success yet). What shocks me is the number of people who get paid to write articles who are ready to call it a failure immediately. The nay-sayers to the deal are squawking about the terms of his contract. Putting the duration and money aside, it does not appear to have any significant restrictions (NTCs,NMCs, nor +35 contract?). Correct me if I am wrong. I am hoping the JM system, the coaching, and who he is paired with on 5 on 5 situations will facilitate his contributions in both ends of the rink. Over his career this guy has proven he is a highly skilled player. My main concern is that the Hab's financial commitment may indicate that Markov may not return in 6 weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my worries are just that...If Marky is activated, how much salary cap does the club have to shed (if Gomez & Campoli are back on the active roster) ? Noob616
I just don't understand how Spacek was the scapegoat last year and everyone wanted him gone, then we commit highway robbery and get Kaberle for him, and everyone's lamenting the loss of a guy who they wanted out of town a few months ago. I can't stress that enough, Jaroslav Spacek for Tomas Kaberle.
