Martin Fired

Not sure this was necessary. I agree that he was probably one of the better coaches behind the bench in a while. Cunneyworth for the season?

This after losing Boucher last year and Muller this year.

PG's doing a great job

Neither Muller or Boucher are doing anything that leads me to want them coaching this team. I'd rather have Patrick Roy attempt coaching this team than Muller or Boucher. I don't understand people's infatuation with those two guys. Yes, Muller was an awesome player, but his coaching may leave A LOT to be desired. And Boucher... Boucher probably has a more boring system than Jacques did.

Good points, those. Didn't stop to think how I'd feel about the Habs running a 1-3-1

Well, let's hope we get the short-term boost that firing a head coach brings. I'm meh about this. I'm not a Martin fanatic, but it seems to be that he did the best with what he had, but what he had -- when factoring in injuries, bad contracts, and the awful D -- wasn't very much.

Firing the coach is such a cop-out most of the time. So much easier to fire the coach than admit that your team is poorly built. Is it Jacques's fault that Scott Gomez has been a disaster in Montreal, injured most of this season? That Cammalleri doesn't seem interested in playing as part of a team? That Markov can't stay healthy, or that PG's attempt at rebuilding the D this past summer was absolutely not sufficient?

What irks me about this firing is that once again, our ultimate goal seems to be just making the playoffs. What would be terrible about missing the playoffs for a year, if it allowed us to draft high and reload for a deep playoff run in a year or two?

I woke up thinking something was going to happen today, I expected another trade tbh. This is weird, I didnt love Martin but I didnt despise him, he had his faults but he has been a good coach for us we just simply weren't winning at home. My only wish is that we held on to Boucher or Muller. Well maybe Patrick Roy can come in as an assistant because I dont want him as a head coach right away. Wonder if we should have kept Pearn as NHL experience behind the bench.

This was stupid. We fired the most competent coach we've had in about 18 years.

Why are people so in love with Boucher and Muller? Tampa is in 13th place in the East, and Muller hasn't been able to do much replacing Maurice in Carolina.

Because people fall in love with dreams. Boucher's system is probably worse and more boring than JM's. We don't have the talent to run anything really offensive and people for some reason think we do. They feel that a Boucher or Muller would all of a sudden release the offense that has been lacking from this team. Well, JM is gone and I bet that nothing changes even if they bring a coach that people like. We don't have a team of big scoring players, except for Cole and Pacioretty - who lead the team in goals.

Who actually fired him? ;)

Christmas came early for me this morning when Twitter broke this news...IMO he had lost the room and respect of some of the guys...I hope Cunneyworth allows our offensive guys to be just that offensive... The timing of this is a little strange. They had a day off yesterday why not yesterday and allow Cunneyworth yesterday's practice and today morning skate to implement his system. Now all they have is this morning. Something must have happened yesterday/last night to prompt this move....

This is exatly how I look at it. Firing the coach is not going to change the things that they have had to deal with (which they are going to have to continue to deal with) with the players. I don't see the point in it. Well, I do, I get what they are trying to do and I hope it works but I don't see why this had to happen. I know there are probably a bunch of people who are estatic about this but I'm not. And I don't think we'll do better with Cunneyworth either. I didn't want this to happen but then it doesn't matter what I want.

That's the point, there's no one else that's going to do anything more than JM was able to.

+1
