Well GHC whos gonna run the bank? hopefully a trusted teller ;)

I wouldnt mind tortorella or bylsma but both arent leaving their teams soon, unless we trade for them like the rangers did with Michel bergeron

HEY theres a guy, the french media would love him and he has the fire and intensity the fans all want.

Seriously, that sounds like who some people describe.

I wanted him when he was available last season....OMG,I love his style behind the bench (holding under-performing players accountable)....god help subban or whoever  if they had bad back to back shifts, coming off the ice.

I'm actually warming up to the idea of Roy a bit. My preference would be a proven NHL coach with experience, but if we insist on going French, he might not actually be a bad choice. Unlike Carbo who was brought in just because he was a Hab, Roy has actually put in the time in the Q and has been extremely successful so far. I admit I had dismissed him as just another unqualified former player and just pictured him as a hot head (incident with his son). Once you dig into his coaching record and look at his career with the Remparts so far though, it's pretty impressive.

Carbo was never a head coach, but he had been an assistant coach with us twice and with Dallas once. It's arguable whether being a head coach in the QMJHL or assistant in the NHL is of more value. I'd still like Roy to get a bit more experience in the AHL or NHL first, rather than have him learn the league with us. Guys like Julien and Vigneault became better coaches once they got experience, but we've given been the learning tool for too many guys the past two decades.

That would be my preference as well. As I said, he certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't be particularly upset if they made that move (I was pretty strongly against it initially). This is more me calling myself out on my own ignorance when it comes to Patrick's coaching abilities/experience. ;)

If PG had been on his toes,,,he would have hired PR to coach the Dogs when Boucher left, or hired him as an assistant when Muller left, just to get him into the system.

But what do I know?

I voted "other" because I think if he were to become available, I would want to get Mike Babcock. His record in Detroit speaks for itself.

But you see, I don't think this discussion should just center around who the next coach should be. I think we should be thinking in terms of the next GM as well. And I say get the best one available, or the best one we can wrest away from one of the top teams in the NHL.

François Gagnon was nominating Vincent Damphousse as the Canadiens’ next general manager and wishing him luck in dealing with coach Patrick Roy.

lol

Didn;t we go down this route before

Houle and Tremblay messed up the organization for years

Now this guy wants Damphousee and Roy

Maybe we should hire Roy as GM after PG hires Tremblay as Coach. That should serve as enticement for Patrick to take the job. REVENGE. :P :P :P

What is the obsession with getting ex-players to coach or manage the team? We had Bob Gainey for six years and it's not like his Cup rings helped him be a better GM, which is a vastly different job from being a hockey player.

This organization will never learn. They're going to be another Toronto Maple Leafs for years to come unless they actually smarten up and go a different route.

Difference between Roy and other past players is that Patrick has earned a shot by being coach for many a season in the Q. I have lost count of how many times we have hired former players to coach since the 80s that have virtually no experience but people would get excited because of their past glory as players and would be deemed the next Jesus..
