Montreal Canadiens VS Washington Capitals

Your Montreal Canadiens (Ole) are going to be participating in a hockey game on Wednsday, January 18th 2012. They will be facing the Washington Capitals, who used to be good but now their not so good because their best player isn't their best player anymore and their goalies aren't so good and their defense has alot of injuries (sounds familiar there) plus they had to fire their coach (whoah familiar again) but they don't seem to have any issues regarding the Gm who does a pretty good job. Now back to Montreal: They have injuries too but their still awesome.

Sorry for rambling Ill get back to the GDT....

Montreal has new face Rene Bourque in the line-up, who is in his 2nd game back from a suspension he received for elbowing Washingtons Nicklas Backstrom in the head January 3rd.

On the Injury front:

Montreal does not have Ryan White or Andrei Markov in the lineup as was the same story at the beginning of the season. Montreals captain Brian Gionta is also recovering from bicep surgery, so look for Montreal to roll 7 defenseman as usual under head coach Randy Cunneyworth.

Washington has none.

HABS' BOURQUE EXPECTS PAYBACK FROM FOR HIT ON BACKSTROM

mtl1_56349.gif

BROSSARD, Que. -- Montreal Canadiens newcomer Rene Bourque expects some payback from the Capitals for his elbow that sidelined Washington scoring star Nicklas Backstrom.

"Obviously I don't feel good about what I did and I apologized, but I'm sure there will be a few guys probably coming after me," Bourque said Tuesday. "It's part of the game.

"It happens to guys all the time. I'm sure I'll get every check finished on me. You just have to be prepared for it."

The Capitals visit the Bell Centre on Wednesday night. Watch the action live on TSN and TSN.ca beginning at 7:30pm pt/4:30pm pt.

Bourque was a member of the Calgary Flames when he nailed Backstrom with an elbow to the jaw on Jan. 3. League disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan slapped Bourque with a five-game suspension.

Backstrom, the Caps's scoring leader, suffered a concussion and is not expected back before the all-star break next week.

"Hopefully, he's coming around; all the best to him," said Bourque.

Bourque would not have seen Washington again for another year had he not been traded to Montreal last week in the deal that sent Michael Cammalleri to the Flames.

He served the final game of his suspension on Saturday and made his Montreal debut in 4-1 victory Sunday against the New York Rangers.

I'm expecting a good, competitive game against Washington. I hope I'm not mistaken!

let's go Caps! Caps win 4-2!! :)

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Caps lose. Lost last night to the Islanders. Back-to-back games for them. Montreal played well last game and is rested. I think we'll see a good win from the Habs tonight. My prediction is 4-2... HABS! :P Hopefully that Carlson kid gets a couple of points though. My fantasy team is hurting!

Washington has none what? Maybe I need more coffee. <sigh>

I think it meant Washington has no injuries.

Love the thread!

I fear an angry Capitals team. I also worry about the rest factor. Too often I've pegged the Habs to have an advantage in these situations and it seems a lot

Of times that rest too quickly becomes rust.

I hope that's not the case tonight.

The Montreal Canadiens hope to follow up their impressive 4-1 win over the Rangers on Sunday with a similar result against the Capitals tonight at the Bell Centre.

Last night, Washington had only 17 shots on goal and were shutout 3-0 by the Islanders. After a lackluster performance, you would expect a different Washington team tonight.

Washington is eight points up on Montreal and hold the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. This is the first of four meetings between the two clubs this season and it's a monumental one for the Habs. They need a win and cannot afford to let the Capitals walk away with points.

The Habs need to start strong and win in regulation.

Rene Bourque should draw a little extra attention tonight. Bourque was suspended five games for his elbow to the head of Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom. Now, in only his second game back from suspension, Bourque will have to deal with a very hostile Washington team.

On another note, I had a nice conversation with Jacques Martin this morning. I asked him about Scott Gomez and his lack of production. The former coach said if he could go back he would have handled that situation differently.

When asked about the team's style of play. Martin said he was never able to play the puck possession style he promised for a number of reasons. In his first two seasons, he felt the team needed to add some more talent. This season, Martin said the lack of experience on defense, along with the injury to Markov, made it almost impossible.

The forwards were not getting the puck, making it impossible to establish firm possession of the puck in the offensive zone.

Speaking of Markov, coach Cunneyworth mentioned that Markov has not resumed skating yet. That would mean that the defenceman is at least a month away. Unfortunately, the Habs may be too far behind in the standings at that point.

The Habs will go with the same lineup as last game with only one change. That change comes in goal, where Carey Price will get the start.

That's what I was afraid of. Backstrom has been out of the lineup since the elbow from Bourque. For some of a fanbase that jumped all over Chara they certainly seem to be embracing Bourque for what was a very cheap, cheap shot. Mike Green had abdominal surgery yesterday so I don't expect to see him on the ice tonight either. LOL Tom Poti is an okay oversight - much like Markov - they really don't exist.

Having said all that I expect an easy win for the Habs. The Caps have been atrocious on the road and were getting use to life without Green - much the same as the Habs having to get used to life without Markov. Then their best offensive player was cheapshotted. They must adjust again. That's something Martin will never get enough credit for while a Habs' coach - getting his team to perform without their strengths.

Neuvirth starts in goal and has had his own problems.

Habs: 5

Caps: 1

Green and Backstrom are out?

Washington should really use a * on their website like the habs do

About the only thing I use other teams' sights for are tickets. I use TSN for injuries. They usually seem to be pretty accurate and easy to find. The only thing I don't like is they don't list the position of the player. I know the Habs and other well knowns but sometimes I like at the list and wonder "whodat"?
