We want to know... if the Habs end up with the #1 overall pick, what you would do with it. Is there a particular player you covet? Or should the team trade down and try to pick up another pick, prospect, or NHL-roster player?

Let us know, you have until Wednesday Jan 25 to vote.

If we could trade it for an established YOUNG star player,,, then i wouldn't be opposed to trading the pick.

A first round pick doesn't always make an immediate impact on a team,, so fast pacing a retooling works for me. ;)

Id go with Mikhail because hes bigger

unless we could acquire a franchise forward with that pick, I.E. a Taylor Hall or Patrick Kane for 1st plus Leblanc plus prospect

These two (nail and griggy) are dynamic. I've heard those two plus galchenyuk are far and above last years top 3-5

also taylor hall needs to stop getting skates to the face.

Most of these established young star players though were top picks who stepped into the league right away. So if we end up with a top 3 pick, why not just draft one of these stars ourselves, benefit from their ELC and retain LeBlanc? ;)

The only reason I picked Grigorenko over Yakupov is because he was listed as bigger - 6'2", 183 v. 5'11", 167 - and because he was positioned at center rather than a winger.

Tempted to take a swede, though, especially a Forsberg. B)

I do not want to trade down and I don't know enough about who else is available in order to draft someone else.

I agree that Grigorenko tends to fit team needs right now more than Yakupov because of his size, but I will say a couple of things about the 3 players mentioned in the poll:

1. Team needs can change quickly, so I still believe you take the best player available. Not saying that's Yakupov by any means though.

2. Yakupov isn't big, but he's a tank (and he's actually listed at 183lbs as well). Both guys need to put some more muscle on, but this is moreso the case for Grigorenko).

3. I agree that Forsberg may be the sleeper of the 3. I can see him coming in and being like one of the Avalanche's recent picks, Duchene or Landeskog... in Duchene's case, Tavares got all the attention at the draft, but Duchene's been every bit as good. And as you insinuated, Swedes tend to be more NHL-ready because of the level of competition they see at an early age.

4. If there is thought to bringing in Roy as coach, the move should be made before the draft and his opinion tendered as to Grigorenko's worth. Having that insider scoop could help.

If I had to guess, I'd project Yakupov to become a Phil Kessel-type player, with a ceiling close to Ovechkin's and a basement somewhere around Andrei Kovalenko. I'd think of Grigorenko as being more like a John Tavares or Jonathan Toews type player, and as I said, Forsberg as being something more like a Matt Duchene, Landeskog, or Giroux type player. The wild card would be Galchenyuk, who likely has a ceiling as high as Evgeni Malkin's but has the question of recovery from the knee injury looming over him (and where have we had issues with a player missing substantial time from a knee injury before?)... if I had the top pick, I would seriously think about flipping it for any other pick in the top 4 if we could add another key piece because I think any of these 4 players can become a star in the NHL. But I wouldn't go lower than #4 in the event that the 1st 4 teams bypass D men in favor of those 4 guys. Of the top 4, my first choice would probably also be Grigorenko because I think he has the most potential to improve over what he's already giving and because his size is better than Yakupov's. But I'd be happy with any of these 4 guys and as I said, if we can pick up another good asset in exchange for taking the #3 or #4 choice, I'd be all over it.
