Montreal (19-22-9) is coming off a 3-1 home loss to Buffalo on Tuesday despite Carey Price’s 37 saves. Earning victories on the road has been a tough task as well. The Canadiens’ 2-6-1 road record since Dec. 15, is second-worst among East teams, even though they’ve been tied or leading after two periods in their last six away from home. Louis Leblanc has been recalled from Hamilton for the Canadiens game in New Jersey Thursday night. Ryan White will not return to action against the Devils. Travis Moen is still out, and Andreas Engqvist – who played 4:12 and was on for the winning goal in that Tuesday stinkeroo against Buffalo at the Bell Centre – was sent back to Hamilton. The Devils (27-19-3) are among the top eight in the East following their league-leading ninth shootout win, 4-3 over the New York Rangers on Tuesday. The Devils have been outscored 13-4 while dropping the last four meetings in New Jersey, scoring one goal in each. The Devils will be without Travis Zajac (Achilles), Henrik Tallinder (blood clot) and Adam Henrique (sore groin). The Devils will be looking to build on their wild 4-3 shootout win over the Rangers on Tuesday while the Canadiens are hoping to avoid a losing streak.
