vegasrick
Habs are gonna eventually score on one of those odd-man rushes. That doesn't bode well for the tank, but it's an inspired third period for a change.
Nine1One
And we can have guys who can do the same thing but not only that. Like FS's example, Chris Neil, he provides good secondary scoring while being a fighter. There is a lot of guys in who are gonna be UFA's this summer. Isn't Clarkson a fighter as well? (he's got 30 goals this season. Insane)
Forever_Habs10
Chris Neil, he provides good secondary scoring while being a fighter. Funny thing is...there was a time when this was not the case for Neil.....changed his game he did.

weepingminotaur
Oh btw, Messier was centering the 2nd line. So there's no relevance to protecting Gretzky. Of course there was. Messier played a grinding physical game enabling Gretzky to get away from matchups. It was pick your poison. But in any case, that isn't the point, because again, the game was different then. Look around the league. Where are the pure goons who have that much impact for their team? Guys like Chris Neil are not pure goons. Neil has some ability. Hell, he's a former 20-goal scorer. You keep trying to conflate toughness with goonism and I am not sure why. They aren't the same thing.

Maybe Staubitz will become like this in a few years. But we can't let a goon clog up a roster spot for years just so we can have a good one in the future, and that's even a big if. FirstStar
Man you have one hell of a memory I follow goalie's, enforcers and followed the 80's oilers and Isles dynasty. 90's I kinda was busy building my career and wasn't able to follow as much. I picked up again in 2000 when my career was on track. For some things I have a good memory. With the Habs doing so badly in the early 80's, I followed the Oil and Isles (they both went far in the playoffs). Loved both teams and their tenders Moog and Fuhr of the oil and legendary Billy Smith for the Isles (he was intimidating). Yes, I know. Maybe Staubitz will become like this in a few years. But we can't let a goon clog up a roster spot for years just so we can have a good one in the future, and that's even a big if. We always have those players who spend a lot of time as healthy scratches. Staubitz can stay in the press box until we need him, no big issue imo. I would hope we wouldn't sign Brad in anticipation that he finds his touch around the net or becomes a better then below average skater. I don't see it happening anytime soon myself.
