Elkheart
Bourque should be given chance to prove past season was only a one time thing. Has good size and is flexable for dif lines. agree on Bourque
Habitom
agree on Bourque New management so give the guys camp to see if they are on board, unless a great trade opportunity comes up. You from Thunder Bay. Met a guy here in Okanagan from TB. Said he was a personal friend of Craig Rivet. Welcome to these forums.
army_mtl
gomez kaberle bourque deharnais gionta markov and now armstrong are not tradeable for anything that would help us any more than what these players can provide you would probably get only second or third round draft choices and a few of these players you couldnt give away no team would be interested (rich contracts)so if they dont produce you send them down. I think that you'd be able to get more than a second round draft pick for someone like Gionta, but your point is still correct: whatever we could get for Gionta is probably worth less to us than Gionta himself. That's the problem with looking at trades right now: we really don't have any position of strength to deal from (unless bottom six forwards count). It's hard to give up a top tier player, regardless of the return, since we're just going to be creating a hole because of that player's absence. KeepsItReal
Kaberle is NOT a bad contract! 2 more years at 4.25 for a PMD of his calibre is great, you find him the right partner and he'll be great for you for the money you're paying. It's amazing what one subpar season with 2 awful teams can do to change people's opinion on a guy.
Graeme-1
Gionta - Good value, useful even when not scoring, great two-way player. Fair contract. Markov - Wait and see with this one, but I thought he looked better and better the more he played. Bourque - The length is an issue but the cap hit isn't bad at all for someone who has posted consecutive 27-goal seasons before this one. I wouldn't rule him out yet. Kaberle - Not great but far from a disaster, he did produce and improved our power play. There's always takers for PP specialists at the trade deadline, and I wouldn't bet against him regaining some defensive form. He isn't over the hill yet and I think the main thing is to find him a steady defensive partner, none of this rotating D-business. Gomez - Contract is horrendous but Gomez is a good hockey player. Not even near worth his cap hit, but if the option is to buy him out or play him, I'd rather give him one more chance seeing how the buyout penalty would be over 4 million. He did play rather well this season when he 1) Wasn't injured 2) Wasn't played in a 4th line checking role with Darche and Blunden People are very quick to jump to conclusions based on shorter stretches of bad play. Last season was a disaster but I think a fresh start this year could rejuvenate several of our players. Good post. While I wish the list was shorter, most of these players are far form lost causes. Gionta had a bad season due to injury, if he can stay healthy hopefully he'll live up to his contract. Markov is a huge question mark but let's see how he looks after a full training camp before jumping to conclusions. Bourque is coming off one bad season but before that was a useful goal scorer. Kaberle's stock has plummeted after a bad stint with Boston followed by last year, but prior to joining Boston he was seen as a fairly effective dman. Gomez is now coming off two poor seasons, and even his first year here didn't really live up to the contract and the player I've most lost patience with, but even he has the possibility of a rebound (at least to 50-60 points). Given the lengths of these players contracts, lack of CBA, plus the fact that we don't really need the cap space; I think it makes sense to give them a chance to rebound and let next summer be the time to cut players loose.
