NHL.com. Antero Niittymaki signs with TPS Turku in Finland. He had been plagued with chronic hip problems which speeded up his departure fron the NHL. Before the start of last season he had an articial joint placed in his hip and was limited him to 12 games in the AHL last seasons.

Patrick Marleau scored twice for the Sharks to spoil Bob Hartley's debut behind the Flames' bench.

These guys are really clicking, Marleau with 4 consecutive 2 goal games and he could easily have 10 total due to being unselfish a couple times. Thorntons got 11 points already with 9 assists along with Pavelski. This is easily the best line in the league so far

They're working their butts off to earn their salaries so they don't end up like scott... Bought out and going from 7.3 mil/season to 700k. :P

NHL.com. San Jose has extended coach Todd McClellan. Under his leadership the Sharks have made the playoffs in each of his five season and 2 Pacific Division titles and have made the Western Conference Finals twice. Assistant coaches Larry Robinson and Jim Johnson are expected to return.

Sharks signed Raffi Torres to a 3 year extension, thereby taking him off the UFA list.

"The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Raffi Torres to a three-year contract that will keep him off the free-agent market next month.

General manager Doug Wilson announced the signing on Thursday. Torres was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 5."
