#8 Brandon Prust 2012-2013

Recommended Posts

I figured with all the negative vibes I've been giving out towards Ryan White that I should give Prust some love to compensate :P. He plays with the sort of 'toughness' and 'grit' that actually helps his team - he plays hard between the whistles, and he's also there after the whistle to stand up for his teammates without ever crossing the line and taking bad penalties. He can also play hockey. I don't excpect every 'tough' player to play like Lucic, but Prust is a great example of a guy who plays within himself and never puts his team at a disadvantage.

Thumbs up from me.

Agreed. When we signed him I said I didnt have a huge problem with the contract - alone, by itself - i just felt like we didnt need both him AND Moen. I stand by that if for nothing else than we dont have enough ice time to get the best out of both of them. Prust has definitely been the better player this year & I wish we werent saddled to Travis for another 3 years (even though I do like him). That said, having both of them (and Pleks and Eller etc) we have a ton more options for PK ice time now.

I do think he's getting way too much 5 on 5 ice time though. Guys like Patches, Eller, Galchenuyk (all of whom have had less ice time than prust in recent games) should never have les TOI minutes at the end of a game than Brandon.

one thing that is available to us is a trade with moen someday, many teams seem to hild him in high regard. prust can take his ice time with ease and we could bring up someone else at a smaller cap hit. or sign someone else for less.

Moen's a useful player, it's tough to find 4th liners who can do a bit of everything like him. I think Moen is essentially an equal player to Prust, better defense, similar offense, less toughness. I'm not saying I wouldn't move Moen by any stretch but if we're going to be a good team and right now it looks like we are, he's a key piece. Reduced role or not.

I agree. I think people tend to underrate how important he was to the Ducks Cup in 2007. Media guys and fans talk about it like he was riding on the SelanneNeidermayerDestiny train, but he was huge for them. I have been a big fan of his signing from day 1.

Agreed. I think I am one of the few that has no problem with the Prust AND Moen contracts. Clearly Prust is worth more to the team than Moen right now, but that might change later in the year. I like the stability both of the signings offered in our bottom six. Prust has also been good at "babysitting" the Gallys.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know the 'grit' and 'toughness' gets played up sometimes.

But this guy had a therapy day and was possibly not going to play a week ago until we found out Bourque was out of the lineup. So he's obviously pretty banged up, but still playing like a beast out there; 8 hits against Toronto which I think may have led both teams.

For those interested, Prust and his g/f Marie-Pier Morin will be on 'Tout le Monde en Parle' tomorrow night (one of the most popular French talk shows on Radio-Canada, recorded in Thursdays and aired un Sunday evenings) set your PVRs :)

Good trade-off for Montreal. Prust and Lucic both sitting for five minutes.

Yup, exactly what i was thinking when it happened. Same with Emelin vs. Chara.

Prust was way overmatched size-wise, but managed to limit the damage by (mostly) tying up Lucic.
