ColRouleBleu
#79 Andrei Markov Bio Stats Video Draft Class Archive 2011-2012 QUOTE LIBRARY "I didn't play for almost two years. I missed the game and I just wanted to play and feel my conditioning and how my knee would react, I'm just happy to be here right now and I'm going to take it one game at a time." - Andrei Markov - tsn.ca March 12 2012
fansince1975
Any news regarding Markov and his knee? I know that Markov played the final few games in the regular season. But he wasn't playing as good as normal. I am hoping this was rust as we need the PP quarterback and at least a top 4 defenceman for our team to be successful. Does Markov stay in Montreal during the summer to workout now that he is a Canadian citizen?
WantMoreCups
Im excited to see how he will do this seasion. it dosnt matter to me how he did in his couple of games last year. i think this summer will do him wounders to get usto his knee. he deserve a fair shot to see if he can get back to his regulair self. if all goes well he will hold up the same trophy as Max did this year. dwdemonwolf
Markov said himself a while back he'd work on his skating. He wasn't brilliant during his brief comeback stint but he wasn't awful, I am not too worried. A full pre-season regime of proper training instead of endless rehabilitation will do him well. Not to mention his importance to our PP.
BeanCountingHab
I'm actually very interested to see what a full and healthy offseason will have done for his skating. Even the Markov we saw the last 13 games will be useful, but I think it's very likely we see some improvment. Probably not Markov of 07-08, but a closer version than what we saw to end the year. S-Bah
Markov has had a whirlwind of turmoil to deal with the last three years, this season should be a pleasure for him.I can't wait to see him start the season on an even footing with everyone and bring his magic back to the Bell Center. Habs_Hockey_Nutz
The Detroit Redwings are in dire need of an experienced quality d-man since the loss of Lidstrom and Stuart... I wonder if 1) they would be interested in Markov... and 2) what could be had that could help the Habs overall. I like the potential that Marky represents. However, perhaps that cap space could be used to sign another UFA like Michal Rozival who is another steady d-man that shoots right. This could balance the roster in terms of left/right-hand shots. Certainly something to consider. However, I think Markov's value is probably at an all-time low right now. If dealing him was a consideration I would wait and see if he has rebounded at all first. That way Bergevin can trade from a position of strength instead of weakness.

He may have finished the season, but it was clear his mobility was greatly reduced. I could be wrong, but doesn't he have a NTC/NMC?

Habs_Hockey_Nutz
I believe Markov can designate 7 teams in each conference to which he will accept a trade. I think Detroit could be one of those teams. He would arguably be in a top-two scenario with them if they believe he is fit to handle the work load. I must admit though, after looking at Detroit's roster and depth chart I am not so enthused by what could be available.
S-Bah
I think that after waiting for Markov to rehab his knee for over a year, that it wouldn't be the trade our GM is going to consider.Markov will take his usual spot as the #1 Dman on the Habs,Subban isn't close to Markov as a leader on defence yet.Markov IMO should be the teacher for all of our young defencemen that are coming into the ranks in the next five years.Veteran leadership on defence from the Little General is imperative to the future of the Habs defence corps His mentoring will help players like Subban,Beaulieu,Deitz,Thrower and the other prospects still in the system can only be beneficial long term.Andrei's loyalty and knowledge that can be imparted will help unite our prospects as only he could in Montreal.Very much like Lidstrom did in Detroit,I'm glad Markov's back and the Habs will be better due to his presence. S-Bah, I'm in agreement with you. Even if his mobility is less his smarts are still there and his ability to teach and lead will be critical to the D-corps. A whole season to rehab the knee could make him more mobile than he looked last season. I remember wondering why Gainey was still on the Habs in '86, but after their cup win I read that Gainey was very instrumental in keeping factions on the team focused on the cup. It was his leadership that was important. I think Markov's leadership will be as important as his on ice performance.
Noob616
I don't think we'll find a trade partner for Markov right now. I think the only feasible way to trade him barring a massive turnaround would be next year at the deadline to a team who needs a powerplay QB. Besides, if Markov returns to form I'd rather keep him with us.

MkGee
If Markov can even put up 40 points and be the skater he was before i'll be pleased.. the only downfall is he'll have to stay away from battling without a doubt and that's never a good thing for a dman to do.. however on another note he was sooo under rated in the past by other teams like the time he netted 64 points i think it was and wasn't even a nomination for the norris trophy.. if he comes back and plays steller the league will have no choice but to except what a great player he is.. it seems though that if you play for the habs you get over looked like Pleks.. i'm almost certain no team would put the same value on him that we have placed on him.
