Apparently he was injured last nioght vs. the Canes... I missed that  Can anyone tell me what happened?

Saying he was injured on the play that led to the penalty shot. I haven't heard what the exact nature of the injury is.

Must have slashed himself harder than he slashed Staal.

5th round pick usually = Gabriel Dumont, Maxim Trunev, Joe Stejskal, Andrew Conboy, Pavel Valentenko

I don't mean that a 5th round pick can never pan out, but it's probably better for us to have him here and ready to go instead of getting a 5th+ round pick that might turn into Gallagher, because overwhelmingly the history shows you get a marginal player or AHLer from the 5th round. Going back to the 1980 draft, we've only drafted 3 guys who have played more than 100 games. If we include Gallagher which I think is probably reasonable, that's 4. in 32 years. Since the beginning of the draft it's 6 guys (7 incl. Gallagher) in 49 drafts.

Chance at a good player > using him as a 8th D man and than letting him go at the end of the year

Minute chance of a good player< Having someone who can be a #6 and play on the PP during a playoff run.

I'm not a Weber fanboy by any means and I wouldn't bat an eye if he was traded tomorrow but the chance of getting anything of value for Weber is pretty low. A 5th round pick can't be reasonably expected to even be as good as Weber, which obviously isn't saying much. To me, the insurance is more important than getting a 5th round pick and then praying for the pick to even play one game in the NHL, especially with how many top 90 picks we have this year.

Agreed. Don't see an immediate need or advantage letting him go at this point. He's being well paid to sit in the press box as an insurance policy for the next 24 games. If he finds himself some work next year as a starter,, then all the power to him. We'll find somebody else willing to play that roll next season. .I'd much rather it be him then having one of our prospects lose out on development time in Hamilton to occupy his seat.

Well, I'd say it's only fair he get a shot at this point. Drewiskie hasn't looked too good IMO.

Weber, despite playing 2 games incredibly far apart, hasn't looked good either. Kaberle on the other hand actually produced and played a fairly decent defensive game as well. Wasn't bad at all, just has a bad contract.

I think it's fair to give him a chance. The guy has had 18 minutes of ice time between two games that were pretty far apart. He didn't exactly get a lot to prove himself with.

That's well and good, but with a handful of games to go before the playoffs I'm not as worried anymore about whether Weber gets a chance. It may seem callous, but Weber's had his chances last year and the two years before that. Right now I'm going with the guy who can win me games. Kaberle, even on the right side, strikes me as a better fill-in that anyone else we have until Diaz comes back.

I just really don't like the decision not to let Kabs back in, since it seems like they're putting contract considerations over hockey considerations when it's the time of year that you need to do exactly the opposite.

Weber,Kaberle and Drewiske are not really in our future plans, but as right now if you want the wins Kaberle is the best of the bunch and should be the first one inserted. Maybe we're jumping the gun and Weber is playing 4th line wing, lol.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Kaberle should clearly be in at this point, because come playoff time we may need him. The only points I'm making is that 1. It certainly isn't the end of the world (we only have 6 games left and a playoff spot already) and 2. For the short term, he can probably be serviceable and the right hand shot can help in a pinch. That's all.
