dwdemonwolf
Hmm. I liked Diaz in his rookie season. His play faltered in the latter half but he was playing through injury and the 7D system didn't do him or any other defensemen any favours. I'm all for keeping him as depth D, he is a more complete player than Weber imo.

Guest archey
this just reminds me of the fact that just about every other team can set a guy in front of the net who on a slapshot can deflect the puck and.....wait for it..........................................score. maybe just me but to my mind if you actually practice such things they work. caperns
I like the signing, good mobility, smart with the puck, young. YOu look at Diaz, Ememlin, both were first year players last season playing at the highest level in there industry, They played well, I think they will be that much better this season. As a team we were 11 in the entire league goals against, second on the penalty kill.
MIASUN
With his signing, who is the odd man out on defence? We have 7 one way contracts.
Guest Regis2
With his signing, who is the odd man out on defence? We have 7 one way contracts. Injuries will happen We had more last yr ( PK, Gorges, Gill, EMelin, Diaz, Campoli, Kaberle, Weber, Markov )
Tothecup24
I hope it is a sign and trade. We have no need for another small soft d man. If we needed a puck mover sure but we don't so who sits? Markov, gorges p.k then? emelin hits so does cube and kab puts up pts so did we sign him to sit in the press box? if so it was a bad move we have dog options and weber. Noob616
There will be injuries, and he's a much much better option as a #6-7 D-man than Weber. Like, it's not even close.
FirstStar
There will be injuries, and he's a much much better option as a #6-7 D-man than Weber. Like, it's not even close. Agreed. I felt last season that weber's days were numbered. His comment during the cammy situation may have gone unnoticed in the media, pretty sure the organization made note of it. Noob616
Diaz is a solid guy to have around, especially at that price tag. Somebody will get injured, and it's nice knowing that we'll have a third pairing that can be counted on for a regular shift, rather than the sheltered minutes Weber gets. Noob616
I don't remember that, FS. What did he say? I don't remember exactly but it was something along the lines of "I'm better than some of the other guys who are playing" (he'd been in the press box for a while). Noob616
I can even see him beating out Kaberle to begin the season. Definitely possible. Diaz is more solid defensively, he doesn't have the high level vision, but Kaberle won't really get much PP time with Markov and Subban likely on the first PP unit. FirstStar
Curious to see how Diaz does this season. He started better than Emelin who took a few months before adjusting. But where Emelin finished high, Diaz finished low. We know now that his drop in play had to do with a groin injury. Hard to pivot, push off and stop when you're suffering an injury such as a groin. FirstStar
I hope Diaz and Emelin get better five-on-five ice time than anybody not named Subban, Georges and maybe Markov. have a feeling we'll see Emelin pared with marky so he should get about the same amount of 5 on 5 ice time. Diaz, hard to say, maybe they'll pair him with either Gorges or Soupy. PK plays a lot of minutes on the top pairing and is still young and inexperienced himself, so i don't think they'll pair him with another youngin. PK will most likely be paired with Gorges, who has a ton of experience and plays a stay a home, shutdown role. This should give PK more liberty to go into the offensive zone and chip in offensively.
