they need to play him a little more though i mean if we make the playoffs carey has got to be rested because you know he's gonna play every game and budaj did pretty well so why not give him more chances and maybe throw him out against an actual team too and not make price play every difficult game

Budaj needs to develop confidence he can hold his own against a top tier team.

Here's another thought. Should we get a settlement and a compressed schedule,,, we'll most definitely need to count on Budai for added starts.

I'm actually hoping for a shortened schedule instead of a compressed one, but you are right... Should the deal get done and we have a compressed 82 game schedule, every team is going to need to rely on the back-up goaltender to help get them through the season. Budaj will be relied upon.

I think so, but Carey is a workhorse, so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't. I hope he does.

Have to think the Jets would be the game at home. Sens in Ottawa has to go to Price.

Which goes with his rebound control. Seems like a nice guy and the loss isn't on him but he needs to be a lot better

I thought he was pretty decent for a back-up last year. Much better than Auld with rebound control. Let's keep in mind that this is his first game in about 9 months, so he's bound to be a touch shaky.

That's true. Even Price had some pretty shaky rebound control in his first game of the year, and that's normally his strong suit.

On a team like this when we have a clear cut number one who will play 80-90% of the games the backup needs to be able to come in after sitting for a few weeks. Since its been 9 months he will get the benefit of the doubt but I never thought he'd be here past this season.

He was originally signed to a two year deal.

Ya I know. Just saying i don't think he's in the long term plans

Backup guys rarely are in the long term plans. It can't be a very promising situation being a backup to a guy like Price. I doubt Budaj would even be interested in coming back next year,, unless of course he gets no interest from any other team.

I don't know, I heard he's great in the locker room and loves playing in Montreal. If he thinks he can be a starter, he'll leave, but I can't imagine he realistically thinks he is a #1 goalie. He was #1 in Colorado and was absolutely abysmal. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays and signs a longer contract as far as backups are concerned.

You could very well be right. I myself see a revolving door behind Price for years to come. I was actually quite surprised he signed on for two years in the first place. He hasn't complained about his ice time, so that makes him an excellent team mate who knows his role. It would be difficult to find a real quality backup happy to only play a few games a year. It's quite possible that management sees him as the perfect guy back there.

He wasn't that bad, just a really rough three minutes there. I'm glad we got him in last night actually, there was a good chance he was going to have a tough go in his first game in 9 months, may as well do it on the road against a hot goalie.

At least this way we didn't 'waste' a one goal game on Price and we should be able to play him in this weekends back to back now if we want in two important divisional games where we should have Subban back.

I see two spots where I'd throw Peter in in February. Thursday against Buffalo and the game against the Canes.
