Werzoth
I hope that MB trades Kaberle. I would be surprised if at least one of Tinordi or Beaulieu is not ready this fall for the NHL. Only so many roster spots assuming Markov is healthy. Kaberle is taking one of the roster spots unless he is insurance for Markov. Pretty expensive insurance. I think that Gallant knows that Beaulieu is ready to help our team now. I don't think Beaulieu is ready, he still needs at least one year in the AHL. Tinordi on the other hand, might be closer than him. I would not be surprised if Tinordi starts in the AHL then makes the jump mid-season.

It's not exceedingly common for a D man to do that (outside of top 5 choices) and I don't see why one of these guys would. they might get a few games in the NHL this season, but I imagine both will start in the AHL. If anyone's going to take kaberle's spot, it'll be Diaz/Weber/St-Denis/Nash... guys with a bit of pro experience already.

He came in last year with a monkey on his back already (and offensively at least he did provide some good value with 22pts in 43 games. His defensive game was not good, of course, but lets give him a chance this season. I just find it hard to believe that a guy can fall that far from grace in such a short period of time. He was a perennial all star & was very good just a couple of years ago. I still think there's potential for him as a top 4 on this squad. It would be a shame to dump him & see him have a strong season elsewhere next year, while we clearly have holes on defense.

I think it's more likely that neither of them start with the Habs in October. Like you suggested, I can see them starting in the A and might get a call up if injuries hit hard. Dman are known for taking longer to develop, even Subban spent a year in Hamilton where he worked on his defensive game. He still had some growing pains he had to go through. With Emelin, Diaz and Subban, we already have a lot of youngsters. I think it would be beneficial for both Tinordi and Bealieau to go through the proper channels and do their time in Hamilton. Kabs is an expensive depth player, but it is what it is and we have him for the next few years.
dwdemonwolf
I'd like to see Kaberle paired with Frank the Tank. He needs a solid defensive stay-home partner. He isn't as bad defensively as he showed last season. His positional play has always been solid but I think the 7D business really hurt his performance. He did provide more good offensive numbers for us. And two have two power play units, one anchored by Markov and the other by Kaberle... Excited! fansince1975
The Flyers lost Carle and didn't sign Suter. The Red Wings didn't sign Suter. And the Preds lost Suter. I think that there are at least 3 teams that would take Kaberle and his contract. And I think Kaberle is worth a 1st round draft pick as they really need someone to run the PP and top 6 D. I think that several "rich" teams have lots of cap space so it does not matter that Kaberle has a big contract. He can always be traded in a season when the right player comes available next summer so those teams are really not giving up a 1st round draft pick. Just pushing the draft pick to another season so it is a win for the team trading for Kaberle. I will be surprised if Kaberle is still with the Habs in two weeks. The cap savings can be used to re-sign Subban to a big long term contract.
ChiLla
Since posting a career-high 67 points in 2005/2006, his numbers have declined every single year. He scored 3 goals and put up a grand total of 31 points last season, which is mediocre at best for an offensive defenceman. He's also turning 35 in March, meaning he likely won't get another long-term contract anywhere. I don't see how any team is going to give us a first rounder for Kaberle and his 4.5 million per year. What? only way habs get a straight up first rounder for Kaberle, is if he plays great and at the trading deadline from a contender.

habsgurl69
I dont think Kaberle is gonna be as big a bust as everybody thinks, i definatley think he has a couple more 40 point seasons in him. New coach, fresh start, just like the team as a whole last year, i dont think he/or they are as bad as everybody thinks. Go Habs Go

But I don't know that he's Therrien's type of player... he seems to have had a history of not liking soft defencemen, and kaberle wasn't strong in his own zone last season. I agree he can still be valuable offensively, but I think he'll have work to do to earn ice time.

Hab-a-nice-day--33-_mtlc
I've heard Bourque has been looking good in camp, what about Kabby ? If the new # 27 is staying past 5 games, Kabby's cap hit as an insurance policy for Marky going down by injury may have to be addressed sooner than later by MB... BigTed3
He did several mistakes yesterday.. we'll have to see over the next few games how he performs. I thought he played a pretty good game overall. He moved the puck and he shot a few times, something he didn't do a lot of last season. I still find it surprising that the coaches insist on playing him with Diaz, who doesn't provide much help defensively. I'd much rather have seen Kaberle with Gorges or Bouillon, two guys who didn't really complement each other playing together either. Last night, Kaberle had one or two pucks jump over his stick at the blueline, but they were abysmal passes. Considering how off most of the team was, I actually thought he played a decent game, and if people actually judged him on what he did on the ice instead of nitpicking at little details as if he's supposed to be the #1 defenceman he was in Toronto, they'd see he's really not as bad as he's made out to be in the media. Agreed about the strange pairings we saw last night - Diaz and Kabs was almost as weird as Gorges/Cube which is one of the most bizarre I could think of with our group. That said, I also agree that he looked fairly strong - much better than most of last year - BUT - my concern is that he should look very good right now as, unlike most of our squad, he should be in game-shape. Either way we agree that we need to see him in a few more games to get a real feel. The reality is, if Markov can be close to what he once was, and Kaberle rebounds to at least as good as he was his last season in TO, our defense really may not be as bad as it seems...especially once PK is back

Agreed, we should be fair to him and judge him for what he is now, not what he used to be in TO. He can move the puck well up ice and in the offensive zone. I wish he would shoot a little bit more on the PP. With his vision he can place shots to create rebounds or into screens. These type of shots don't have to be hard to be effective. This would throw off the PK wingers who otherwise know to target Markov's shots on the PP. He better start holding the line better at their blueline though. Only some of the pucks that came out were from a bad pass, like the on from Patches
jimdubbs
There isnt a softer defenseman in the league than kaberle in his own end. its absolutely brutal, doesnt win battles, players can just take his side of the ice at will, blowing right by him. Exaggeration aside, I agree that he needs a far more robust defensive partner, which is why pairing him with Diaz is so strange. Bouillon, while undersized, would be a better choice & if we're going to regularly give him the sort of minutes he had in game one, Gorges may not be a bad idea to at least try.
