FirstStar
Nah, my post wasn't meant to be a knock on Subban's defensive qualities at all. I agree with you, he's definitely underrated in that department as his defensive game has come a long way in the past two years. Given given his flair for offense, however, I feel it's better for the team to have him play with someone who doesn't think offense first. Bouillon's value to the team isn't measured in points, as opposed to Kaberle's or Weber's, who both are neither as effective nor as physical as Bouillon. Like I posted before, I also think Emelin would be a better partner for Subban, but that would entail changing up all three D pairs, which I don't think is the way to go at this point. So Pk can freewheel and chip in offensively, it would be in his best interest to have a stay at home dman as a partner. i don't see Kabs being that guy. he's much better offensively than defensively imo. PK worked really hard in his 2nd NHL Season on his defensive game, which was a weak spot for him early on. Before joining the bulldogs he was all offense with little defense. His offensive numbers dropped last season, which doesn't bother me since he was working on his defensive game, making him a well rounded defender. I though he was better defensively last year compared to this season(so far). He seems to be in a fog on certain shifts, he's a very strong skater with incredible mobility. Personally i'd like to see him (for the short term anyways) get back to a defensive startegy until he shakes off the rust. I feel he's trying to do too much right now, I know he's trying to get in MT's good books, but we don't need confirmation about his offensive game, there's nothing wrong there. As for kabs, found him to be a little stiff in the first period, could be due to Toronto coming out and hitting early on. Kabs usually stays out of the physical altercations. As the game progressed and the habs uped their offensive/physical game, Kabs seemed to loosen up and look more comfortable. I like how MT is praising and defending his players instead of critcizing them in his post game interviews. He seems to have learned from his time in Pittsburgh. He said kabs was very professional and did well for a guy who hasn't played in 12 games. Kabs did well for a guy who's spent the last month in the press box. jennifer_rocket
I thought that Kaberle had a pretty good game last night against the Laffs. I don't know why MT is not utilizing him more... I thought he looked slow (maybe he was always slow). The pairing with Bouillon had me nervous. With that said, he certainly didn't hurt the team after having been in the press-box for weeks and weeks. I'd be happier with Diaz back, but hopefully Kaberle can hold the fort until he recovers from injury.

I can't reaaly say as I couldn't watch the entire game because of satellite problems.

BigTed3
Kaberle with two real solid outings in a row. Agreed. No big mistakes from him, whereas a lot of the D men have been struggling.
dwdemonwolf
These past two games, we've been putting ourselves in bad positions with some questionable decision making. But Kaberle has kept it simple, it's been nice to see. He's very calm with the puck (as always)
powerplay2009
This is totally hypothetical because it will NEVER happen, but can we buy this guy out and then sign him at a reasonable price?

Habanero-mtl
I was of the opinion that he should be bought out. Not anymore... He's looked solid and he even was going after some Boston players in a scrum! Wow. His seat in the pressbox has helped... the coaches are getting the best out of the players. weepingminotaur
A handful of games will not convince me Kaberle should remain a Hab after this season. Exactly, I think people are getting a bit carried away. I'm happy he's contributing in the absence of Diaz, but he's still a 35-year-old super-soft d-man making $4.25 million to be a sheltered third-pairing PP specialist. To me that's a compliance buyout this summer, no questions asked. Leveraging what he can give us in the meantime is just gravy.

There's no way I don't use our remaining compliance buyout on Kaberle unless Markov getting injured for another six months or something crazy (knock on wood).
