BigTed3
PK now up to 13th in the league and closing in on top 10.
weepingminotaur
Glad to see the PK climbing into respectability. Frankly, as long as we're middle of the pack killing penalties, I'm fine.
BeanCountingHab
The PK was already getting better before he got here, but it's been outstanding since Halpern joined. Like around 95% I believe. Not saying he made that much of an impact but he sure hasn't hurt.
dwdemonwolf
Halpern is great on the box play. Not only is he a faceoff machine, he is very smart on the point. He plays more like Plekanec does, cutting of lanes and steering the play. He does not rush and overskate the play like Armstrong and especially White have a habit of doing. dwdemonwolf
Hilarious video but just watch the box play work from our guys. It's awesome. Plekanec and Moen are playing the points to absolute perfection.

Not saying he made that much of an impact but he sure hasn't hurt. The same thing happened last year though. At about 30-35 games into the season, we were sitting around 80-82%, and then we had a PK surge in the second half of the year and finished 2nd overall. As I've said before, part of that might have been the team getting used to its system, part of it might have been opponents sitting back against a team out of the playoffs, I don't know. Obviously the latter is not the case this year, but it's nice to see both special teams falling into place.

ColRouleBleu
One of the players (I think it's Gorges) said that the main PK players did many video review sessions with the coaches and they've been practicing that part of the game quite a lot in the past few weeks. weepingminotaur
It also doesn't hurt that marginal players like White and Armstrong are no longer taking regular turns on the penalty kill.

weepingminotaur
i agree and i think mb deserves a lot of credit for picking up halpern to give us a solid 2nd pk pairing Halpern has helped, but we already had two solid pairings: Plekanec-Moen and Eller-Gionta. The only reason Armstrong's not on the PK is because he's hurt. I'm happy with where our PK is right now, don't get me wrong, but I feel that we could have gotten better a lot sooner just by using personnel properly. Plekanec and Moen are playing the points to absolute perfection. Absolutely hilarious. And yes, the forward play was stellar. Great rotation, patience, sticks in the lanes, nobody getting confused about assignment. FWIW the Bruins' PP is 25th in the league but 10th overall on the road, so it's not a nothing achievement to have held them to 0 shots killing a crucial 6-on-4 at the Bell Centre. BigTed3
Found it. Apparently we've climbed into 13th with a success rate of 82.5% And it's been mentioned in a number of places that we've been perfect in something like 7 straight games. Definitely getting on track, just like last season.
