If you believe there will be hockey this year, then now is the time to start thinking about getting your tickets. Home game seats for the general public will go on sale as follows:

5-10 game packs will go on sale Sat Aug 25 and information can be found here...

http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=53060

Individual game tickets will likely go on sale the week after (as of Sep 1), although confirmation has not yet been officially announced...

http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=56633

Please feel free to post information on road games as you see fit.

We do allow posters to mention if they have tickets available but will not allow any commercial solicitation by people trying to scalp their tickets above face value. If you have tickets you cannot use and would like to dispose of them, please post simply which date and seat type/number of tickets you have and ask members to p.m. you for details rather than advertising prices.

I just checked the site for individual games. What is with the "Optimum Games"? Why are they special and priced higher? Is something going on, on those dates?

It's pretty common around the league, optimum games are just the games they expect to be in higher demand for whatever reason, home opener, rivalry games just games/teams people really want to see.

Sometimes, but most of the time they're just games deemed by the Habs to be highly popular because of the opponent and/or day/date. They tend to feature players (like Sid, Ovi, etc.) that people want to see.

Well the Leafs are a big draw anywhere, especially since a fair number of Leafs fans travel, it increases the number of potential buyers.

Because we have them at home at least twice every year,,,why are the optimum games only have them once? Nope,,,I don't get it. I would guess that they are only 1/2 interesting.

They're in Montreal 3 times every year and the optimum games only having them once may be arbitrary but they only have Boston once as well, they probably don't want to anger fans by having a significant number of optimum games so the only alternative would be to have 6 of the 10 optimum games being Toronto and Boston, which probably isn't what they wanted.

The Leafs are a massive draw anywhere they go and Montreal is no different. Habs fans want to watch Montreal - Toronto and Leaf fans always travel, there's just more demand. When I buy individual game tickets every year, I find Montreal - Toronto to be the hardest to get and the scalping prices are usually pretty high.

You might be better off going to Buffalo to see a game. They just might be cheaper.

It's cool to see them live anywhere but missing out on the ambiance and atmosphere in Montreal significantly takes away from the experience.

As you said, I think the optimum games are just a chance to mark up certain one, but they'd be hard-pressed to use those price on 25-30 of 41 games or they'd have to just advertise those as being regular prices.

I personally don't think a road game compares to a home one in terms of atmosphere either, but it's gotten to the point for me that the home prices are so exorbitant that it makes more sense to travel to see them once in a while if you want to get tickets at a reasonable price and without having to worry about finding them. There are some cities where you can get the equivalent of red seats for about a third of the price, and that's worth considering giving up the home crowd to see. Plus, we tend to be a team that has fans in lots of places, so it's never quite like you're alone on the road.

The lockout threat has really done a number on group plan ticket sales. Nearly all 10-game packs are still available 2.5 hours in... would be unheard of under normal circumstances. Understandably, it seems no one wants to commit to games that might never get played, and even if you get reimbursed, the team doesn't refund the ancillary charges, which amounts to a couple hundred dollars on a pair of seats. And if seats aren't selling here, you can imagine they aren't doing all that well elsewhere either.

There's no doubt that's the main reason but you started seeing some eroding last, tickets available right up until the puck dropped, seats empty, it's a combo of the team doing bad and the tickets just getting too expensive.

No question about it that there are other factors too, as you mentioned. The only thing for the Habs is that almost all their tickets are sold before opening day, so you don't see the effect of the poor on-ice performance on sales right away. It's manifested, as you said, by physically having empty seats, but those tickets have in effect already been paid for. It's only this season that we'd see what fans think of last year's effort and that, compounded by the uncertainty of the lockout and the team's insistence on bumping up prices yet again, has led to a drastic fall in demand. I'd expect that single-game tickets will still be sold, especially for the second half of the year, but the number of people willing to commit to big dollar amounts on multiple games looks to have taken a tumble.

They're crazy expensive, I stopped going a few years ago. They'll always find a way to make us pay more so that it pays them (players and owners) more.
